Jordan's obituary

Jordan, 34, of Tacoma, WA passed away suddenly due to complications of the spinal cord injury he sustained in October 2021. His family is shocked and incredibly saddened by his loss.

Jordan was born on August 9, 1988 to Mark and Meleanie Guerrero in Tacoma, WA, joining his older brother Jon to complete their family. Jordan attended elementary, middle, and high school in Gig Harbor, WA. Shortly after graduating from Henderson Bay High School, Jordan attended the French Culinary Institute in New York, NY and studied the International Bread Baking Program as well as Classic Pastry Arts.

After completing his certifications in New York, Jordan stayed and worked at a variety of restaurants, building up an incredible amount of experience working for chefs like Jacques Torres, Dave Arnold and Nils Noren, Todd English, Bobby Flay, and more. Shortly after returning home to Washington, Jordan began working in Seattle where he became a Production Baker for Serious Pie, a Tom Douglas restaurant. He moved on after several years to work in the cafe of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as their Global Cook. Jordan was most recently working for Facebook as a member of their Indian Specialty Kitchen and was working on promoting within the company before his car accident in 2021. Jordan loved cooking, collecting vinyl records, listening to music, watching horror films, and talking with the friends and family he loved so much. He loved attending concerts, and over the years made many lasting friendships by going to shows in many different concert scenes. The truth is, Jordan had an innate ability to make friends everywhere he went. He was quick to help others make connections too, both in and out of the concert scene - and somehow, always seemed to be able to find a connection between his friends. He was a bright light for any one who needed it, and one of the most caring individuals to ever walk this earth.

Jordan met Shelby online in 2014, and they quickly figured out that they were meant to be. They were engaged in 2016, married in 2018, and would have celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary in November 2023. The couple purchased their first home in October 2020, making Jordan one of the most proud homeowners on this earth. He loved his home so much, and loved to invite friends and family over to entertain and cook for them in his kitchen. He proudly learned to tear out carpets, patch and paint walls, care for the lawn, and attempt hanging Christmas lights to Shelby's perfectionist liking. Jordan and Shelby adopted Kona, their beloved pup, in January 2021. Jordan bonded with Kona in an indescribably special way, and the two were inseparable. Over the years, Shelby and Jordan enjoyed cooking together, drinking coffee, loving on Kona, and spending time with their friends and family. They loved to try new restaurants, go on drives, and most of all, spend time together in any way they could. After Jordan's spinal cord injury in 2021, Jordan and Shelby loved their quality time together the most, and would find ways to make even the most ordinary days memorable in one way or another. The love Jordan and Shelby shared was incredibly deep, and they made it through every challenge presented to them together.

Jordan was also incredibly proud to most recently dedicate time towards volunteering with The Here and Now Project, specifically working on a committee to assist in planning their annual Walk, Run and Roll 5K. He loved contributing to this group, who helped him through an incredibly vulnerable journey after his spinal cord injury. The friends he made in this group changed his life, and ultimately saved his life a few times too. Jordan and Shelby both made friends in this community that quickly turned to family, and the kind of love this group created is something that will live on for eternity.

Anyone who knew Jordan knew that he was the most kind-hearted, generous person that they could meet. He had an immense passion for helping others, and for being a genuine friend and confidant for those who needed him. He was always a source of positivity when anyone needed it. He was the first person to give you the shirt off of his back, his last dollar, and all of the positivity he had even when faced with his own challenges. Jordan's kindness and generosity is something that will never be forgotten by the many who loved him. His family and friends will miss him more than words can ever describe. There will be a Celebration of Life held from 9:30am-12pm on Saturday August 12th, 2023, at 7 Seas Brewing in Tacoma, WA.
