What an amazing person! John was as so many know a stalwart host, full of info about his beloved area. That is not to mention his amazing at least equally beloved dogs.

Seeing him interact with family and friends is a treasured re-experience through the marvelous pictures his dear ones have provided.
His thoughtful, gracious nature comes through beautifully in the comments of others.

To share a meal, a walk around the Lake or cross country with him are wonderful memories. John D.'s devotion to his work is particularly memorable. Few have such devotion to a comparable a degree, for so long. His special deep affection for his daughter provided a warm element of their visits.

To see John D. with the next generation with which he reused whenever possible was to enjoy his truly loving nature. His self-made woodpile was matched only by the size of his heart. The dogs which he taught so well were very evidently a great comfort not only to him, but to us.

In sum, this man in the way of his departure has provided a fine lesson.
Huge thanks to those who have put the story of his life together. It helps us share not only him, but with them as well the gorgeous experience that he generously shared at Lake Tahoe.

In loving tribute to him.

I am very sorry for your loss.  John was always smiling and happy.  He loved his life in Tahoe and always looked forward to your visits and appreciated your hard work to beautify his yard.  He was a joy to know.

The Dean family reunion was one of the highlights of the past few years. We gathered in Rochester, Michigan where John and his siblings grew up and his brother Bill and his family still live. All three siblings were there along with all their kids. We visited dad's high school, university, his old family homestead which was gone but we saw the old basement, and the town. Spent lots of time together with wonderful memories and stories to tell. It felt so good to hear the tales of them growing up together and be able to see some of the sites where they took place. It was a real highlight for Dad who talked about it for months afterwards. It was such a treat for me to see the three siblings together and listen to them reminisce.

Some of my favorite memories with dad were taking the dogs out for their daily walks. We went rain or shine 365 days a year. So many fun times going out at the Sierra Tract or other trail with our x-country skis and being followed by several dogs in our tracks. They didn't always care for breaking trail so they let us do the hard work! We also went out with our mountain bikes and let them run as much as they liked. Dad always felt they got more exercise if we went on the bikes than if we walked. Those dogs had it made!
