Bethany, we are thinking of you and praying for you. I feel like I don’t have adequate words right now. Your family has always been such an inspiration of faith in God’s goodness, even in the midst of extreme trial. Hugs.

For two years in a row I took a scuba vacation to YWAM Destination Paradise in Belize.I myself had been part of YWAM Denver for the WISE and later the SOW (2007). During those schools I got to know John and his family a little bit. When I was in Belize, living in the rythm of life on the base. I asked some DTS students one time, who was their teacher for the week. They replied, it was someone from YWAM Denver... I learned it was John. So I joined the open night that week. Just to sit in the back and listen. I didn't introduce myself, because what would be the change of recognition.... YWAM Denver a big base with a lot af students going through. But he did, he recognized me.... We had a great time caching up on stories, sharing live and just stuff..... For me it was a nudge from above.... Who can arrange something like this, right ?.... going to a random place for vacation, and then by change meeting someone from ten years before. So we could encourage each other....He and his family have a great legacy, living and sharing live.Love and prayers from the Netherlands, Bart, Jacobien and Caleb Lievers

I was apart of the BDTS in 2011. I didn't get to know John very personally, but his zest for life, love for people, and big love for Jesus was infectious. I remember being amazed at how much he genuinely cared for every one of us despite our very short time together. The dedication of your whole family to ministry despite personal hardship was inspiring. I dont have words, but please know that my heart breaks with yours. I'll be lifting your family up in prayer. Ride forth victoriously.

2002, Some Wild river somewhere in Colorado
John and I joined our buddy Wildman, Isaiah Stronic for a white water, paddling adventure on some crazy river in the mountains of Colorado. I don’t think either of us knew how to paddle a creek kayak but we tried some class three rapids because we were young and dumb. If I remember correctly, John hit a big rock and hurt his shoulder. We had to end the trip a little early, but I think everything turned out OK - nothing too serious. As we drove back to Denver, we sang old rock ‘n’ roll songs like up on crippled Creek by The Band at the top of our lungs having had a great day. Good times.
