Thanks again to those who joined yesterday. Also, to Chris Gordon, Tim Snyder & Grant Robart for helping pull it together, and Jennifer Noland, Anna Leavitt and Pete Bailey for making the treck.
Two weeks after his 49th Birthday (May 2), Gabe paid homage to you guys and his Great Northwest roots -- with this funny blast from the past. I can't say I know any of the groups playing in the Tacoma Community World Theater, but 7 bucks a ticket (6 with a promotion)...dang :)

Gabe got more creative with age. :)
How did he do that??
I'm not sure. But he kept swinging between physical and digital worlds with what he'd do. He kept open to mentors. He had friends who encouraged him. His capacities were always there and he just followed his muse.
While he'd likely string me up for showing a few of these personal videos -- or my folks will since his bed isn't made :).
Still, I'd like to share this video showing Gabe's passion. Isn't it clear he had a lot more to come?

I have so many memories of Gabe, although they’re admittedly fading over the years.
First and foremost when I think of Gabe I think of his smile, which was always equally warm and mischievous - which fits the man who wore the smile.
Gabe and I drove across country in 1993, which was great on so many levels. Driving from Seattle to Virginia Beach we stopped in Idaho, Denver and random places in Kansas and elsewhere in the Midwest - with predictable shenanigans along the way. Gabe introduced me to tribe called quest on that drive while we swapped tapes every 45 minutes or so.
We reconnected later when we both lived in the Bay Area and again in LA but for thei past 20 years I’ve mainly admired Gabe from a distance - watching him pursue his passions, living freely and just being himself. I’m so grateful for all of the pictures on this page as they give views into Gabe’s life I never would have known.
Beyond these and other random memories, when I think of Gabe I think of Gary Payton and the SuperSonics. I’m not sure that GP ever had a better fan than our friend Gabe. When Seattle gets that team back we need to do something proper for Gabe’s love and faith.
RIP Gabe.

I didn't know Gabe well, but I knew him for a long time - 3rd through 12th grades, I think. I remember him as a kind, bright, charming boy. On Facebook, I saw glimpses of the adult he became, and he seemed to be living with intention, enthusiasm, and creativity. It seems an impossibility that he is gone, and I send sympathy to all of the Motts. I am so sorry for your loss. Che, you wrote a lovely tribute to your brother.

Gabe's Huedoku used for Van Gogh's Starry Night - so cool. I was gonna wait to post this on 30 March, Van Gogh's B-day...but we're celebrating Gabe today and so no holding back required. :)
If you plan to join Gabe's Pacific NW friends and family - they are gathering at Madrona Arms at 4pm (1138 34th Ave) and closing the bar out (kidding, but maybe not a bad idea :)

Gabe made this video in 2014 when he first launched Huedoku, his color app. I wanted to share this mainly because Huedoku is such a great example of how Gabe projected his creativity 'out there '. Not only a digital translation of what the Impressionists like Van Gogh knew & wished they'd learned earlier in life, but also Gabe's intention to help people see color the way the artists did. If you ever tried Huedoku and have ideas for how to improve it - or if you want to be on a steering group mailing list please reach out to me
chemott@gmail.com. Also if you want to help build a catalog of Gabe's art, let me know. No sprints, but steady over some time.

Richie Menti, Pete Bailey, Andrew Rogers, Drewster and a bunch of Seattle street ballers. As sad as I am to post proof of my Bro & Richie beating me & Drew in dunk hoops -- I always smile watching this, and liked Gabe's editing and commentary. This is the Mott Tourney (Gabe's idea) in the alley behind our house in Laurelhurst. Gabe video taped the games, and then got special training on the University of Washington campus so he could use their video editing equipment -- in the days of VHS not Adobe. There is a longer version of this video for the guys who were in the Mott tourney -- my Dad has it on cassette and we're gonna burn it.
