Eloise's obituary
Eloise Paulette Head was born on September 30, 1931, in Grassy Lake, Arkansas to Tommie and Martha Dickerson. She was the fifth of seven children.
Eloise graduated from J.C. Corbin High School, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1951. Throughout high school she worked as a housekeeper in the evenings.
Eloise moved to Chicago in the 1950s and began work as a waitress. She met Edward Head Jr. and the two were married on August 26, 1961. In February of 1964, a daughter, Shaun Head, was born to their union. In June of 1991 Shaun gave birth to a daughter, Eloise’s only grandchild, Mietka Head.
Eloise accepted Christ at an early age. In the 1950s, she and her sisters joined Zion Temple Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member. She taught Sunday School and served as a member of the Deaconess Board and Concerned Women ministry. She was a fierce woman of faith and a prayer warrior.
Eloise’s love for children led her to open her home as a Daycare. She provided parents with a safe and reliable place for their children; an environment where they would be nurtured and loved. So positively influential was her impact on their lives as young ones, that they continued relationships with her as adults. The dearest to her were Deirdra (Gilliam) Osborne, Cynthia Gilliam, Brandon Kennedy, Candace and Anfernee Roberts.
Eloise was a pillar in her community. She was the epitome of a neighbor, supporting and reaching out to many families. She will also be remembered for her baking, particularly her AMAZING chocolate chip cookies and pound cake.
Eloise LOVED her family. Together she and her sisters were the glue and force behind the closeness shared among one another, their brothers, their children, cousins and friends welcomed as “family.” Eloise encouraged family love and togetherness and considered it essential to our lives.
After the passing of her sister Tommye, Eloise returned to Arkansas in 2008 to live with her sister Altoria. At that time, she re-joined Morris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. In 2016 she returned to Chicago to live with her daughter Shaun. She remained in her care until her passing.
On April 30, 2022, Eloise made her transition to be with the Lord peacefully at home with her daughter.
Eloise was proceeded in death by her husband Edward Head Jr., parents Tommie and Martha Dickerson, siblings Claude Dickerson (Pearl), Lorraine Frost, Tommye Moore (Willie), Jasper Dickerson (Earma), in-laws Edward and Hiawatha Head Sr., sister-in- law Hiawatha Ransom (William) and her honorary son David Hoskins (Rhonda).
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Shaun Head, granddaughter Mietka Head, sisters Millye Beatty (Leonard) and Altoria Helms (Henry), a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends including a very dear friend in Tim Bridges.
Eloise’s legacy will continue through the lives of those she loved. She will be profoundly missed.
