ANNOUNCEMENT
It is with great sorrow that the family of Dagmar Brigitte Isolde Herrmann-Estes announces her passing on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, in the comfort of her home in Greenville, North Carolina.
LIFE STORY
Dagmar was born May 21st, 1958, in what is now known as Rosengarten-Westheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. She is the middle child and only daughter of her deceased parents, Alfred Herrmann and Rosemarie Herrmann (nee Leibersberger). After the passing of her first husband, the biological father of her daughter Joana Herrmann-Lyon, and then the subsequent marriage of her second husband, Dagmar permanently moved to the United States in the early 1990’s, where she eventually became a naturalized US Citizen in 1997. She then married her beloved husband, David K. Estes, in 2001, with whom she remained until her last day.
Dagmar has spent nearly three decades building a career in clinical finance and healthcare operations within major academic medical centers. In 1995, Dagmar received her BA in Accounting from St. Michael’s College, graduating magna cum laude with honors. In 2009, she went on to receive her MBA from Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. In 2015, Dagmar retired as the Director of AR Operations for Johns Hopkins Department of Physician Billing. She then continued her career as the Director of Clinical Finance and Business Support Services for East Carolina University School of Physicians, retiring for the last time in 2023.
FAMILY
Dagmar is survived by her devoted husband of 25 years, David Estes, their children: Joana Herrmann-Lyon, Nicole DiSanto, David Estes II, and Mathew Estes, and their grandchildren: Julien Lyon, Ciara and Natalia Jones, Ava and Kaylee Estes, and Jacob Estes.
Dagmar is predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Rosemarie Herrmann, and is survived by her mother-in-law, Phyllis Estes, the wife of her predeceased father-in-law, Roy Estes.
Dagmar is survived by the family of her predeceased older brother, Uwe Herrmann, his wife Margarette Herrmann, and their three children: Marco, Alexandra, and Annette. Her younger brother, Alexander Herrmann, his wife Kerstin Herrmann, and their son, Thore. Her sister-in-law, Deborah Humphries, with husband, Kent Humphries, and their three children: Devon, Garrett, and Taylor. Her sister-in-law, Lori Estes, and her two children, Saranti and Anna. Her sister-in-law, Lisa Nelson, and her two children, Savanah and Ashley.
She will be remembered by her close maternal cousin, Karin Warren, and her close paternal cousin, Monika Maier. Together with Tom Lyon and Perrie Lyon, the paternal grandparents of their shared grandson, Julien.
