Personal note from Cooper's Family

Our beautiful son and brother, Cooper Francis Mayer, took his own life and found peace on Saturday, July 27, in Santa Barbara, overlooking his beloved Pacific Ocean. Cooper left us too soon, but he lived and loved his life on his own terms.

He came into this world with a loud voice, a bright smile, a few golden curls, a twinkle in his eyes, a creative spirit, and with boundless and spirited energy. Cooper was sensitive and tender but also relentless in his pursuits, whether on his surfboard, with his friendships, or in the classroom. He possessed a curiosity about the world and his place in it. He never accepted being held back or a blanket “no”, and always wanted a thoughtful explanation for the boundary’s life put on him. Cooper will remain alive and vibrant in our hearts. We love and miss him dearly and his wry grin and laugh will always be a constant in our lives.

With love,

Stephanie, Scott, Spencer, and Fritze

Update from Aug. 13, 2024

Scott, Spencer, Fritze and I want to extend our immense gratitude for the outpouring of love and support the past few weeks both here on EverLoved and to all of you who joined us on Sunday. It meant the world to us to feel your embrace, hear your stories and share the beauty of Cooper’s favorite place. We want to especially thank Lizzy Moore for her heroic effort to help us create an event that would honor Cooper and soothe us all. This video (https://www.youtube.com/watch…) captures a bit of the incredible moments she made happen. If you would like to watch it you can copy and paste the link into your web browser. We will also post in on the Memories page. Thank you Lizzy.

I am finding that grief is revealing. You can’t run from it, but rather it needs to be embraced and let it change you. May love be your guide during this time and may you all find peace.

With love,
Stephanie
