So sorry for your loss.  Your parents were wonderful, kind people.  i remember when they visited our home in Laguna Beach years ago. It was a delight to catch up.
The Lewis family in Sacramento have been thinking of all of you and sending our love.  You are in our hearts and especially today as you celebrate your mom and dad, sister and brother, uncle and aunt.   They were wonderful people each time we had the pleasure of being around them.   What a beautiful/handsome pair they are.   Love to you all.   Dan, Sandy & family.
Lisa, Allie, and Lindsay, I have some truly wonderful memories of Pokey and Cathie and many times together at Island Lake with you girls and the Engbergs. Saunas, swimming, sharing meals. The kind of lake-life that happens organically with neighbors and friends, and becomes treasured memories for a lifetime. Your parents were really great people. Kind, caring, encouraging, bright, unique, funny.  I'm so sorry for your loss.

I grew up with your Mom in Duluth.she was one of my best friends. I spent a lot of time at your Grandparents house. Our favorite TV show was Flipper. TheHughes family was such a great Family to be around.

We also had many great memories atThe Gordon’s Cabin on Grand Lake for the 4th of July.

At the 4th of July Celebration we had our annual softball game. Mr.Lewis would prepare the field. On the evening of the 4th your Mom and I took your Grandmothers car and did donuts in the field. I reminded your Mom about that years later and she said. “Don’t tell Mr. Lewis’. Your Mom was such a wonderful person. Cathie and Pokey were always there for the Maertz-Kirsch  Family. My Husband Jeff also was able to meet your Mom a few times. He thought she was one of the nicest persons  he’s ever met..Your Grandparents had such a large family and had so much to do but when  I asked your Grandmother to be my sponsor at my Confirmation of course she agreed. Your parents will be sorely missed. Mary and Jeff Shields

I have great memories from when I was a little boy of swimming, boating and fishing at Island Lake with my Aunt Cathie and Uncle Pokey. We had so much fun! They were the best Aunt and Uncle a kid could ask for. I have always cherished those memories and I always will.
Sending loving thoughts and condolences to Lisa, Allie, and Lindsey, their families, the Trachsel family and the Hughes family. I have very fond memories of Cathie and Pokey going back many, many years. They were two of the finest people I have ever known.... kind, caring, respectful and fun! They will be greatly missed.
Steve and Joyce Lent send our condolences to the Hughes and Trachsel families.  We both grew up as neighbors of the Hughes in Kenwood and knew Pokey from sports, especially his accomplishments in Little League and hockey and slow pitch softball.  God bless them and all their family members.
So sorry  to the Hughes & Trachsel Families for the loss of 2 Great people
So a great majority of the Hughes & Trachsel Family are familiar with my brotherBoogie! Well, Boomer’s Bar on 4th St. was a popular place to gather. Well Pokey would always challenge Boogie to a “Shovel-off” which would’ve entailed a yard of Class 5 fill placed in the parking lot! Pokey would boast that he could out shovel Boogie which get scoffed by Boogie! You can just picture the bantering back and forth!

So sorry Larry for the loss of your brother and sister-in-law. My condolences to you and the Trachsel family

My Sympathy to the entire Trachsel Family...as a freshman at UMD hockey, on my first road trip with the Hockey Bulldogs my room mate was Pokey ...learned a bit from him on that trip and other memories including riding to the Duluth Arena in his black cadillac ,,,pokey always making a couple of stops at Marv Zemans Amoco for gas for the beast  and Sammys Pizza for his paycheck where Pokey said he cleaned windows for pocket money etc....His words always to me were " dummy up " I kept many of those things to myself  for many years but those were a couple of memories for a lifetime with Pokey...there are many more on and off the ice ; also many instances where Cathie a being the strong woman - appropriate for Pokeys partner never letting Pokey get away with too much...Too soon gone but a rich life of experiences.

Cabin Trip 2022. I know how important family was to Cathie and Pokie, and during a visit it was beyond amazing how much I was made to feel like family even though I had just met them.

2023
Cathie's sweet note that came with a package in February, has been on my fridge since then because of how thoughtful it was and how good it made me feel <3

The whole Trachsel family was such a staple of my childhood in Duluth, from autumn applesauce making to NYE sleigh rides to summer soccer (skipping spring because what even is spring in Duluth...). Some of my strongest and happiest memories are from the ESS years -- our parents taking turns carting us back and forth between Duluth and the cities -- so much laughter and fun. I recall being envious that Lisa got a pizza for every goal scored (a Pokey tradition, I believe).

Lisa, Allie, and Lindsay and families: My heart breaks for/with all of you for this shocking and cruel loss. Holding space for your grief as you move through it and wishing that the 13th may bring some small healing as you mourn, remember, and celebrate your parents. Sending so much love from France.

The Trachsel’s have been a staple in my life as long as I can recall. Their daughters are what connected us as they were stellar athletes and also brilliant girls. You rarely saw Cathie without a smile, her laugh was contagious and she was such a delight to be around. Pokey was quiet, never shared what a star he was in his past, I’m learning new details now! They always welcomed us kids to their home on the lake and to their pool at their home in woodland. My fondness memory of Cathie was a trip to Santorini, Greece. We hiked, ate, and lounged! Always hoped to plan another trip in the future. Sending my love to the girls and family. ❤️
