I randomly met Mr. Orsini and his daughter one day at a restaurant. He mentioned that his daughter was in second grade and would be attending a new school. I proudly shared that I was also a second-grade teacher at that school. Little did I know, among nine homeroom teachers, I would be fortunate enough to have Sophia in my class!
Not only did I gain an incredible student, but I also welcomed an extraordinary "Room Dad" into our classroom. Mr. Orsini quickly became a beloved figure, not just to my homeroom students, but to all the children in the school he encountered. He never missed a learning night, fun run, field trip, or any school event—his dedication was unmatched.
Reading his obituary, I was struck by the words that described him as someone who would give you the shirt off his back. That exemplified him perfectly. He left campus once to grab warm towels for students who weren’t prepared. His commitment to taking students from my class to church highlighted his desire to share the love of Jesus with others, further showcasing his character.
In July, Mr. Orsini, gifted me tickets to see Janet Jackson and Nelly. As we walked around State Farm Arena, he introduced me as "Georgia's Teacher of the Year." While I wasn’t that titleholder, Mr. Orsini truly embodied the spirit of "Georgia's Room Parent and Father of the Year."
Thank you, Mr. Orsini, for bringing joy, excitement, and an abundance of love to our classroom. Your willingness to step in and be a father figure to those students whose fathers were absent will never be forgotten. Your impact on our lives and school community is immeasurable.
