Betty's obituary

Betty Jane Coates was born in Minot, ND on December 4, 1933 to her parents, Kenneth & Doris Nelson.  She had one brother, Jim.  Her family moved to Seattle where Betty graduated from high school at Cleveland High School in 1951.  In June of 1953, Betty married the love of her life, Ted Coates. Betty & Ted raised three children, Kathy, Mike, and Karen in University Place, WA.  During these years they had many biking, skiing, and football game adventures and fun times at the Officer’s Club at Sandpoint. Betty loved her Washington Huskies and was a season ticket holder for many decades. She truly bled purple and gold. After Ted retired, they took many trips but her favorite vacation spot was always Mazatlan, Mexico.

Betty is survived by her husband Ted, her three children and their spouses Kathy (Scott), Mike (Cheryl), Karen (Darin), nine grandchildren Aubrie, Evan, Austin (Kathy); Amber, Michelle, Leann (Mike); Jordan, Brandon, Joshua (Karen), and one great-grandson Remington (Austin), sister-in-law Marianne, nephews and nieces Brent, Mark, Erik, Merrill, Rick, Greg, and Lisa.

Please join us on 2/22/25 at 2pm to honor Betty in a celebration of her life at Slavonian Hall, 2360 North 30th St, Tacoma, WA.

Betty was a supporter of the American Society of Prevention to Cruelty Animals (ASPCA) and Tacoma Parks Foundation. In lieu of flowers, please donate to these causes in her honor.
