I don’t think I’ve ever met a man quite like Ben. I first met Ben at my Husband and I’s wedding where he participated as a groomsmen. By a tender mercy of our Heavenly Father, I later was able to build a friendship with him and Sarah as we too moved to Philadelphia for Academic endeavors. I often had conversations with my husband how amazed I was at Ben and Sarah’s ability to serve others unconditionally with love and care. They were always the first ones to volunteer to help members in our congregation who were in need. They often gave rides to youth and the elderly to church, helped new families and young couples move in (myself included), drove to pick up food orders from the Bishop’s storehouse (not close by the way) and participated in many home improvement projects for others. Never once did I hear him complain. He also held multiple callings in church (ward missionary, pianist, young men’s leader) and touched the lives of everyone he met. He was one for adventure and lived his life to the fullest. One of my fondest memories is spending time with him and the boys at his families cabin after Jake and I were newly married. I was the only girl there, but he didn’t treat me any differently. Many laughs where had. I didn’t know Ben for very long, but the impact he has had on my life will last a lifetime. His and Sarah’s example of unconditional love and sacrifice will always inspire me.

I offer my deepest condolences to Sarah and Ben’s family. Ben deserved every ounce of love and support he received from so many. He will live on in my mind and heart. He is one of the most wonderful young men that I have had the honor of knowing and teaching. He was kind, funny, smart, generous, and principled—a true gift to this world. His memory will always be a blessing.
