Wynne's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wynne Stevens III, who departed from this life on December 28, 2024. Born in 1943, Wynne, affectionately known as "Grandpa Wuzzy" to his 8 grandchildren, lived a life that was anything but ordinary. He grew up the son of a Naval Captain and lived in many places across the US including Norfolk, Honolulu and the Pacific Northwest.
Wynne was a charming and creative soul, always ready with a laugh and a quick wit. His intellect was rivaled only by his ability to make even the most mundane moments memorable with his silliness. He brought joy and warmth to every room, and his absence leaves a void that can never truly be filled.
An alumnus of the Naval Academy, class of 1965, Wynne brought his characteristic blend of humor and intelligence to his distinguished service. His dedication and vigor left an indelible mark on the institution and on all who knew him during this promising chapter of his life.
After his tour on a US Destroyer during the Vietnam War, he returned and began his career working at the Rouse Company in Howard County, developing the town of Columbia, MD. From there he launched Stevens Homes where he built custom homes in Central Maryland and Deep Creek Lake. Upon retirement, he lived in both Tucson AZ and Port Ludlow, WA authoring four novels and acting in local theater.
Though his accomplishments were many, Wynne was never prouder than when he spoke of his family. Father to four children, he leaves behind a daughter, Katherine Stevens Barnett, and two sons, Andrew Wynne Stevens and Allan Christopher Stevens. His Son David Allan Stevens sadly passed in 2010. In addition, his eight grandchildren who he adored, Elam, Abigail, Elliot, Finn, Suriyana, Grace, Mayu & Anna, who will continue to carry his legacy.
Wynne will be remembered for his infectious charm, his intelligent mind, his creative spirit, and most importantly, his unwavering love for his family. While we mourn his loss, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of laughter, joy, and unforgettable moments. Wynne "Wuzzy" Stevens III will forever reside in our hearts.
A private memorial will take place in Monkton MD, spring 2025.
