Coach Walker taught us technique, teamwork, and how to win. In the mid-60’s MJCC was #2 in the state behind MAC. He produced whole families of good swimmers: the Prosterman’s, Levy’s, Matz’s, Okeon’s, Scheidt’s, etc. Ultimately we left as teammates who were healthier for it and with a love of the sport.
My deepest condolences to the Walker family. I will always remember those good old days at the McAllen Swim Club fondly. Coach Walker was tough on us and made us excel. Rest In Peace.

Sean, look me up sometime. I’m in San Antonio/New Braunfels all the time or at home in Natchez, Mississippi. (601) 807-5622

Bill Walker was a great man; …
Bill Walker was a great man; he was my 1st swimming and basketball coach, which are the sports I love most. I played at Rhodes College in the 70's, and swam most days until the pandemic. Bill was the athletic director at the Memphis Jewish Community Center, when the place still had integrity. We were all sad when he left for Texas, and the growing swim program fell apart in his absence. I had not seen him since I was 14, when he was on a visit to Memphis. Fortunately, I had the presence of mind to express my gratitude for his huge, positive impact on me as a child. His memory is indeed a blessing and I'm very sad to learn of his passing. Here is the JCC swim team pic from about 1965.

Coach Walker was tough on me, but I carry his invaluable life lessons with me to this day. I still swim and I think of him every time I get wet..and it’s (mostly) good. Christy was my friend and I’d love for her to be in touch. I’m sorry for your loss.

My 88 year old dad played bridge with Coach Walker in the last few years. My dad was honored that Coach asked about me. And least that’s what my dad said...hmmm...

He influenced my life more than any other person. For that, I will be eternally grateful. Peace is with you.
My deepest condolences to the family of Bill. He was a friend and fellow member of AA. When he took ill, I attempted to take his place at the BC Jail meditation meeting. He will be sorely missed. May God Bless and keep him.

My condolences to Karen and the entire Walker family. Bill was quite a man. Upon becoming the athletic director for NEISD I was amazed to find that Bill ran the entire swimming program for five high schools, a swim club, and the many programs for kids and adults that started early in the morning and ran to late night while similar size school programs had three and four times as many employees.. He had an assistant and several life guards and we never had a major incident during my time with him. Outstanding Bill. I had great respect for Bill as an administrator, teacher, and friend. Bill loved golf and we shared many rounds together. Thanks Bill for always being accountable and being a good friend and co-worker.
Bill was a wonderful man to work with at BAC. He was so welcoming when I came to the athletic office and continued to mentor me even when he retired. His stamp on the Aquatics programs for North East and the club teams is legendary. I will miss him as will the world of swimming.
Rest in peace Coach Walker. I have fond memories of your time with the McAllen Swim Team. Thank you for your tutelage. Former McAllen High School swimmer Mark Talbot.
Sending love, prayers, and hugs to you all. I know he’s in Heaven with my dad having a wonderful time and spirited discussions. Uncle Bill will be greatly missed.
