We did spend some time with Ivan at a mutual friends home ( Robert Painter) while having dinner , dessert and watching movies. Always engaging and friendly. We spoke of Zion National Park and of the world in general. It was a pleasure to be in his surroundings and spend time with him. We send our deepest sympathies to family and friends.

I am so sorry for this loss.  I knew Fr. Ivan slightly for many years.  Then one day in 1998 he was on call at the diocese.  When my young sister-in-law was dying at the UofU Med Center, my mother-in-law turned to me and said, "get a priest".  She was not religious but at that time of need, wanted help.  Our parish priest was ill and not able to come -- he called Fr. Ivan and he came without hesitation.  His presence brought a sense of peace we would not have had without him.  I will remember him always and give thanks for his life.

Our heartfelt condolences to Ivan’s family.  I came to know Ivan and to develop a deep friendship with him in the course of many unforgettable hikes in the red rock canyons of Southern Utah, which we both loved and which I will always associate with his memory.  Since we were near neighbors, we got together frequently for dinner and other occasions, most often with a small group of friends.  Ivan was an exceptional person, whose humor, compassion,  humility, and commitment to social justice will be remembered by all who knew him.  In fact my wife Malena and I asked him to officiate at our wedding, which he generously did so, imbuing the simple ceremony we had envisioned with grace and the presence of the divine, so Ivan, dear Ivan, will always be in both our hearts.
