Vivienne Marcia Roache was born in Roses Valley District, St. Elizabeth to David and Ramah Lalor, the first of their sixteen children. Mother to Joseph “Goodly” Gray and Najay Roache, she was beloved by countless friends and family for her spontaneity, her unforgettable cooking and baking talents, and her adventurous spirit. After leaving Roses Valley at a young age to search for new opportunities, she traveled to Kingston where she worked as a domestic aide to support her family, before joining the Post and Telegraph Office. Marcia or “Viv” – as she was affectionately known, remained lifelong friends with several of her colleagues from this time and always spoke fondly of playing netball and sporting with her friends. If there was a domino table, she was there. If a feel-good tune was on the speaker, she was swaying along. 

She met and later married Wesley Roach of Freetown District, Manchester in 1984 and he joined her in migrating to the United States where they settled down to build their life together. She worked as a clerk for almost thirty years before retiring to enjoy the fruits of her labor. Marcia loved life and took special pleasure in entertaining her friends and loved ones at home. No matter the day of the week, guests would be welcomed with a rich meal, and if you were lucky, a slice of her cassava pudding or black cake for the road. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas was marked by tables laden with the food and baked goods she lovingly prepared for friends and family – too many to name, but everyone had their favorite. She loved to travel and later in life, she found a special fondness for going on Caribbean cruises. For those who knew and loved her, the world is a different place without her in it. She is survived by her husband, children and grandchildren, siblings, and an enormous village of family and friends who will miss her always.
