Teri's obituary

The pain of a funeral service is simply more than we can bear. In place of a visitation or service, we invite you to please share your favorite memories and photos of Teri here on this memorial website.

Teri Matteoni, age 61, passed away on March 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was born in November 1963, in Pua, Thailand, and even at a young age, she always brought immense joy to those around her.

Through her strong faith in Jesus Christ, she was able to endure the pain of multiple medical treatments, including a stem cell transplant. Teri touched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of strength, resilience, and an unwavering positive spirit in the face of adversity. She truly was an inspiration to all who knew her.

I would be remiss if I didn’t express my deep gratitude to Teri’s manager and coworkers at Abbvie for their unwavering support during the past 15 months. Teri cherished her career at Abbvie and held the people she worked with over the years in the highest regard. I also want to extend my sincerest thanks to the doctors and incredible nurses who cared for Teri throughout her journey, all working tirelessly towards a cure. I will be forever grateful for your compassion and dedication, and we truly appreciated and enjoyed every one of you.

Teri is survived by her loving husband, mother, and two sisters. Additionally, her extended family includes; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and many cousins. Her immediate and extended family along with close friends will forever hold her memories dear. She will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, larger-than-life smile, and the positive impact she had on everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

Let the memory of Teri and her larger-than-life smile be with us forever.

It brings us great comfort to see how she touched the lives of so many—through her laughter, her warmth, and the joy she brought into every space she entered.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the Preservation Foundation of the Lake County Forest Preserves. All donations are 100% tax deductible and will go entirely toward Teri’s memorial plaque and dedicated trail, honoring her legacy for generations to come.

Teri had a deep love for the outdoors, especially Van Patten Woods—a place she affectionately called “Teri’s Park.” In honor of her special connection to that place, the family is planning a lasting tribute: a permanent commemorative plaque at Sterling Lake in Van Patten Woods. The cost of the plaque and dedicating the trail around Sterling Lake to Teri's memory is $25,000. If you would like to help us and take part in this enduring dedication to Teri, please see the details below.

Gifts can be made directly at LCFPD.org/Tribute, or by calling 847-968-3110 for more information.

Thank you for helping us celebrate Teri’s life in the way she lived it—full of love, nature, and a smile that could brighten anyone’s day.
