Sue was a wonderful friend and colleague . She was a mentor to me whose wisdom, kindness, curiosity and love of life will stay with me for the rest of my life. I will miss our daily conversations, our lunches at work, discussing the plans for each of our future travels and the stories we shared. Bob and Sue opened their home to our family and were there when our children needed anything while students at UGA. I will miss her deeply. May the memories of all who were fortunate to know her be a blessing.

I met Sue when I first came to Tucson the day after John called and proposed to me. Ron Brekke, John and Bob had gone to Vietnam together so I was to meet the group (I guess to get their approval??) The years we spent together and the travels have been so memorable. I couldn't have asked for a closer knit group than the 6 of us. But Bob and John's jobs were so aligned that we lived either next door in a 4 plex at Ft Leavenworth right next door to each other ( might as well been together the walls were so thin) or in the same neighborhood in DC. Rob and Jen baby sat our girls while we went to the club. We lived in Germany at Ramestein while Bob and Sue were at Hahn. We also lived in VA after Germany. They came to see us in Norway after Bob retired and then again in Norfolk before John retired. Even after we retired we were together so much. The trips to Europe were always a hoot. Sue and I might imbibe a little bit at times (ha!) and one of the last trips together we were singing on the street in Rome walking back to the hotel. Bob was like a brother to John and Sue was like a sister to me. I miss her dearly already, but I know that Bob will be here in TN to work with John fixing airplanes and talking old times (like when Bob and I had to walk Sue and John back to the hotel room in New Orleans after doing the hambone in Pat Obrien's.) Too many memories and they are all such fun and thank goodness for all the laughs and tears we had.... love you Sue

We met Bob and Sue at McConnell AFB, August 1969 with their two tots Robby and Jennifer. Sue was always sincere and caring. We met again at Davis Monthan and six short years at England AFB. Our girls, Christie and Julie were part of the Gatliff family and enjoyed picnics, birthday parties, swimming pool, and socials. Our reunions at Hahn, England, Tennessee, Italy, and California were alway happy events. Sue’s happy personality made every event memorable. We will miss her.

Thinking of Sue.
We remember Sue as a kind person, energetic, talkative with always another anecdote to share; often travel/food related with a humorous twist. A caring perfect host for family and friends. Always making sure everyone in the room felt seen and heard.
We cherish the memories of Sue, especially from Christmas last year in Amsterdam, she will be missed.
Our heartfelt condolences to Bob, Rob, Jennifer and other family members,
Marcel and Nico

We have only fond memories of Sue. Always the perfect host, genuinely interested in everyone, and thrilled by new culinary adventures—especially French cuisine. A loving wife, a proud mother and grandmother, she will be missed dearly. Our heartfelt condolences to the family.

Sitting in a dreary Turkish bath house with a bunch of half naked women, wrapped in a small towel, pouring lukewarm water from a tin cup on ourselves, wondering - why are we here??
Sue driving to Strasbourg, France to have lunch being asked at the border to open the trunk of her car only to find it filled to the brim with sacks of garbage that she forgot to throw away at the base.
Sue talking with a group of ladies, one apologizing for being late (I can't remember who it was) because she hit some black ice. Only Sue heard "black guys" and was horrified that this person wasn't the least bit phased by this.
Making Bellinis when we were on our bus tour of Italy.
Adopting Snert (Snow and Dirt) the cat when we moved into their house in Buchenbeuren.

It’s November 1985 and the guys just left for a month TDY to Turkey. This was my first year in Germany, Hahn, and it was cold, and dark by 4pm., and living in an apartment with two young active boys, in a village in the middle of nowhere and then there was Sue, gathering all the wives in the 313th squadron assuring us it was going to be okay. With her guidance we set up our weekly Friday happy hours at the O’club, Saturday excursions with the kids, and Thanksgiving together without our husbands. We ended up at her house for dessert, wine and charades, so many laughs. She was one of us, someone you could trust and seek advice, simply the best. I raise my German crystal wine glass to you Sue, 🍷💕
