Sherry was a joyful, generous spirit, full of light and grace. She was a beloved daughter to D.B. (Bill) and Marylee Johnston. She is survived by her high-school sweetheart and husband of 59 years, Carl E. (Ed) White and their three children, Christy Hartman and her husband, Justin of Muenster, TX, Brent White and his wife, Jennifer of San Francisco, CA, and Lance White and his wife, Jennifer of Novato, CA. Sherry took her role as “Mimi” very seriously and was an adoring and attentive grandmother to three granddaughters Rosemary, Della and Eleanor Hartman and grandson, August White.

Family was essential to Sherry. She spent thousands of hours talking and traveling with her sisters Caryl Lee Kennedy and husband, Jim of Centennial, CO, and Paula Stites and husband, Bobby of Afton, OK. She adored her brother-in-law, William (Bill) White, and his wife Barbara of Enid, OK. Sherry was a loving presence in the lives of each of her six nephews and their families. She was a true and steadfast friend to Diane Hamby of San Marcos, TX, and Kathleen Phillips of Conroe TX, and loved their spouses, children and grandchildren as her own.

Sherry was born in Joplin, MO, but spent her younger years in Southwest City, MO, where she was surrounded by extended family. She had close relationships and many adventures with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. When Sherry was in elementary school, her family moved to Pawhuska, OK, to own and operate a Chevrolet dealership. In their sophomore year, Sherry and Ed had their first date on a church hay ride and she graduated as co-valedictorian in 1962 from Pawhuska High School. After attending Oklahoma University as a Gamma Phi Beta, she transferred to Oklahoma State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science with Honors from Oklahoma State University. Sherry began her career as an accountant at Pan American Petroleum.

Sherry and Ed married in 1966 and lived in Tulsa, OK, where their two oldest children were born. The family moved to Reston VA, in 1972 and then to the northside of Houston, TX, in 1975 as Ed pursued his career at Gulf Oil. After Lance’s birth, Sherry opened a stylish, denim shop called The Jean Company in the early 1980’s. Ed retired from Gulf Oil in 1985 and – as a team - they founded IDSCO, an international procurement and export distribution service company. In 2008, they moved to Highland Village, TX, to be nearer their granddaughters. After closing their business and retiring in 2017, Sherry never slowed down. She pursued personal passions, actively participated in the lives of her beloved family and contributed to her community.

Sherry loved to spend time at their mountain home in Colorado and she and Ed traveled extensively— visiting almost 70 countries, enjoying the culture and food in the various areas they visited. She was an avid walker, striving to walk every day, during which she caught up with family on the phone. Her neighbors say they loved her joyful demeanor as she began and completed her walks. Sherry was a voracious reader and always had a crossword puzzle in the works.

Sherry was a committed member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, 5500 Morriss Road, Flower Mound where her memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 22. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to a memorial fund through the Everloved.com platform. Funds will be dispersed in Sherry’s name to causes she loved and supported.
