Scott's obituary

Scott Paulson, of Waxhaw, NC, passed away on July 21, 2022, after a 2.5-year battle with glioblastoma. He was 62 years old.

Born November 15, 1959, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, he was the son of Russ and Lois Paulson. In 1964 he moved to Uganda and later Kenya, where his parents worked as missionaries. In 1975, he met Eunice, his high school sweetheart, at Rift Valley Academy (RVA) in Kijabe, Kenya. After graduating from RVA in 1977, he attended Northwestern Bible College for 1 year, and then completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Aviation at LeTourneau University. He and Eunie were married in 1980. He worked as a flight instructor in Cape Cod, MA before leaving for Kenya in 1987 to serve as a missionary pilot with Africa Inland Mission (AIM).

Scott served with AIM for 35 years, 31 of which were spent working as a pilot in East Africa and then as a flight instructor for new AIM pilots in the United States. Scott loved aviation, and he loved teaching his students to fly safely and wisely in the challenging conditions that often characterize mission aviation. But most of all he loved serving in Kingdom work, using his skills to advance the good news about Jesus Christ by working with both his heart and his hands.

In lieu of a traditional burial, Scott chose to donate his body to Duke University Medical Center to be a "silent teacher", in gratitude for the excellent medical care he received from the The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke.

He is survived by his wife Eunie, their four children Christopher (Jessica) Paulson, Ashley (Kyle) Jurado, Alexandra (Billy) Riddle, and Brandon Paulson, and 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by his father and mother Russell and Lois Paulson, and his brother Kent (Brenda) Paulson. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, gifts be given to a project of Scott's creation in helping a good friend and Kenyan pilot, Eric Kihara, to manage the creation of updated aviation maps for general use and flight training in Kenya. Notes may be sent to Scott's home address at 8702 Karibuni Dr, Waxhaw NC 28173. There will be a memorial service at 12:00pm on July 30th at Calvary Church in Charlotte, NC.
