OMG, that's Scott's one-room cinderblock studio at 5923 Colby Street.  I believe he moved in there from New York in the summer of 1985.  He was still living there as late as July, 1988, which was the last time I was there.  The structure was (and still is) located behind a large house and had originally been a garage, but Scott made it entirely his own--a writer's studio in a great location.  Between the house and the studio there's a concrete patio, and Scott, being the generous sort he always was, would always let me and my girlfriend pitch a tent on the patio and stay there as long as we wanted.  It is a wonderful thing when you are poor and in your 20s to have a friend like Scott who lets you put up a tent in front of his one-room studio whenever you want, so that you can have a base from which to roam and explore all of the delights of the Bay Area.  Scott was always a great guy and a true friend.  I like to remember him as he was on Colby Street, so many decades ago in our immortal youth, happy and working on his manuscripts every day, looking toward his future, living the young dream life of the writer!
