Sam's obituary
Samuel Paxton Jackson 43 of Moody, Tx. passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022 after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Sam was born on November 17, 1978 in Shreveport, La. to Charles and Rebecca Jackson where he joined his older brother Matthew in the family. Over the years, Sam became a big brother to Aaron and then Elisabeth. For most of Sam's childhood, he and his family lived in Covington, Virginia.
Sam was an incredible human being with a huge servant's heart and a smile that was contagious. He had an amazing ability to bring levity to any situation and make even the saddest of hearts crack a smile. Sam used his natural musical abilities to spread cheer, laughter and joy by writing silly songs and re-writing lyrics to familiar tunes. Never far from his guitar, Sam could pick out notes and play almost any song by ear. He used his musical gifts as a powerful tool of worship and created quite a few original songs that his children, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews still sing to this day.
As a teenager, Sam and his family traveled to Central and South America where they served the Lord as missionaries. Sam learned Spanish and had a supernatural way of fitting in with the locals even though he towered over them with his over 6 ft. frame, red hair, and freckles. Sam was a natural at picking up the cultures in a foreign land and making friends. The effects of his impact as a missionary are still felt today through the lives he touched and the stories told.
After living in Central and South America, Sam moved to Lufkin, Texas. Sam made incredible friendships in Lufkin, and found new ways to express those musical talents. Sam was a member of a garage band called Crash Fandango, and a worship band named Flourish. He also played music and sang with his church's worship team.
In early 2004, Sam met his wife, Joni in Arlington. Tx. After a quick courtship, Sam and Joni were married on March 14, 2004 in Tyler, Tx. Sam and Joni have 10 beautiful children; Paxton, Delaney, Presley, Gage, Grace, Cohen, Grady, Hope, Nora and Asher, all of which possess the same lovable characteristics as their father. As a father, Sam would sometimes discipline his children through song as a creative and loving way to bring correction to his children. He fashioned homemade costumes out of boxes, built forts, sang songs and nurtured their hearts and souls with an incredible father's love. His children and wife meant everything to him.
As a young husband and father, Sam went on to earn a master's degree in School Administration and later became a teacher, mentor and coach. Sam brought his unique gifts into the classroom and used them to make learning fun and intriguing. His last professional role as an educator was in Moody, Tx. where he coached middle school students. His relationships with his work colleagues were always professional, but his heart as a friend and Christian enabled him to grow deeper with most.
Sam's 43 years of life on this earth were lived out with an immense love and passion for the Lord and for his family and friends.
Sam is preceded in-death by his daughter Peyton and son Cullen. Sam is survived by his wife Joni and their ten children: Paxton, Delaney, Presley, Gage, Grace, Cohen, Grady, Hope, Nora and Asher of Moody, Texas; parents, Charles and Becky Jackson of Lewisville, Texas; siblings, Matt and his wife Carolyn Jackson, Aaron and his wife Meagan Jackson, Elisabeth and her husband Daniel Vega and four nephews and two nieces. As well as a whole host of loving family and friends.
