For people diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a stem cell transplant is perhaps the treatment that provides the best chance of survival. A donor that closely matches the recipient's HLA tissue type provides a better chance of a successful transplant. Siblings are the best potential donors, with each sibling statistically being a 25% match. Rose was lucky in that she had two siblings that were full matches for her. She received a stem-cell transplant in March 2021 and was able to get into remission. Many others do not have suitable donors available and must rely on donor databases. Please consider signing up to be a potential bone marrow / stem cell donor, and you may potentially save someone's life.
