Background
We are raising money to help support Rosalyn's family during this difficult time. Monetary gifts will be used to offset funeral expenses, pay outstanding medical bills, and most importantly, for her children's future.
Rose and Jonathan met as teenagers in 1995 and started their family as a young couple, and over the years, they raised a beautiful family with four kids: Christian (Arjay) (24), Isabella (17), and the twins Landen and Nico (13). As of late, Rose and Jonathan were in a very special phase of parenthood where they were witnessing the fruit of their labor in seeing their children bloom into young adults.
Prior to becoming ill, Rose was very active. She worked full-time at UW Medical Center while being a busy soccer mom supporting the three younger kids' competitive soccer. She loved hiking, camping, traveling and spending time with her family. Rose was very excited for her kids' next adventures, including Arjay being an early-career material science engineer, Isabella starting to look into colleges, and the twins entering their teenage years.
Everything changed in October 2020 when Jonathan brought Rose to the hospital as she hadn't been feeling well. That day, she was admitted and diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). AML is a rare and aggressive blood cancer. At this time, there is no known way to prevent most cases, and no screening tests have shown to be helpful in detecting AML early. It appears that Rose developing AML was random and unpreventable.
After the AML diagnosis, Rose would go on to spend seven of the next nine months in the hospital, receiving chemo treatment, a stem-cell transplant, and fighting to recover.
Back at home, Jonathan and the kids had to immediately and unexpectantly adjust to Mom not being home. Jonathan, as a small business owner, decided to cancel most of his home renovation projects in order to focus on Rose and the kids. He took care of the three younger kids while simultaneously advocating for Rose and staying with her in the hospital.
Despite repeatedly being given poor prognoses from doctors over the past nine months, Rose was determined to fight and, time after time, defied their expectations. She simply wanted to return home and continue being Mommy. Inspired by her late father, she developed a mental strategy to fight through each day-- one day at a time. As the likelihood of recovery became more slim, Rose maintained her brave, graceful, fighting attitude. She shared that she wasn't afraid, but her only concern was for her children's future.
Rose was and will always be an incredible mother. She was loving, encouraging, and fun. Rose instilled in her kids a sense of hard work, kindness, encouraged them to focus on their education and to use their smarts to make the world a better place. As a result, Rose and Jonathan's four kids have developed into very compassionate, intelligent, driven human beings full of potential. During Rose's illness, while missing their mom, the kids cared for one another and for their dad. We are certain that they are always making Rose proud. We know that Rose will always be looking after her children.
While nothing can ever replace Rose's presence and fill the gaping hole in the lives of those she leaves behind, we can do what we can to support her husband and children move forward and her kids to achieve the dreams she has for them.
We are incredibly grateful for everyone's love, support and keeping Rose's memory alive. Thank you. Contribute
