Ronald's obituary
Ronald Winthrop Jones passed away at the age of 91 of natural causes. Ronald was the beloved husband of Catherine (nee Maitland) and the devoted father of Deane Wiles of Wirral, England, Laura Jones of Vancouver, B.C., Dylan Jones of Irvine, Calif., Brenn Jones of Westport, Conn., and Polly Jones of Madison, Wis. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Ronald was predeceased by his parents August Jones and Bess White, his older brother Larry, and his younger sister Helen Van Hoey.
Ronald was born in Louisville Ky. He received an A.B. in Economics from Swarthmore College in 1952 and a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT in 1956. He was an active member of the faculty at the University of Rochester for 58 years, from 1958 until 2016. In his distinguished academic career, he would earn 6 honorary degrees, publish more than 180 articles, including “The Structure of General Equilibrium Models” (1965), and author or co-author several books, including the textbook World Trade and Payments. Ronald was a member of the National Academy of Sciences as well as several other academic societies and editorial boards. His death is mourned by friends and family as well as countless students and colleagues from around the world.
Note: After retirement, Ron attended Marian’s House where he found expression for his considerable talents in art and music, participating in their sophisticated programming for individuals living with dementia.
