Ron wrote a story about Bear, his dog, for Stroll Broken Top Magazine.  He posed for the photo with Bear outside his front door.   Here is a copy of what he said about Bear and his family:  Bear by Ron Simpson

Meet Bear aka Bo Bo.  Bear is an 80-pound seven-year-old Labradoodle.  He is the sixth dog Pam and I have shared in our lives since we were married.  Before Bear, we had five other Labradors all 100 pounds or more!  We were told by the breeder that Bear would grow to 45 pounds or so.  I never discovered how they miscalculated his potential weight so badly.

Pam found Bear in a Dundee, Oregon kennel.  She was enchanted by his beautiful chocolate-colored coat.  We brought him home to Broken Top when he was eight weeks old.  We soon learned that Bear’s favorite activities are dinner, walks, treats and tummy/chest rubs.  He also loves to meet people and other dogs.  If he has a fault it is he is so enthusiastic and energetic.  Fortunately, he calms down after the initial greeting.

At home, Bear has multiple places to nap and relax.   Most of those are in various chairs as illustrated by the picture.  We have twin five-year-old granddaughters who visit once or twice a year.   Their nickname for him is “chair bear.”

Bear is very intelligent and remembers things and places  On walks this sometimes results in his barking.  If you see Bear and I out in Broken Top just know that he is friendly.  He also barks at dogs and people who walk past our home.  I know he thinks he is protecting the house because sometimes he barks then turns to me as if to ask if I recognized his effort  He also can tell time!  Well, at least what time he is supposed to be fed for dinner.  If I am not on time he finds me and gives me “the stare.”  I am sure many other dog owners know this look.

Pam passed about a year and a half ago.  We both miss her so much.  Bear’s lively and loving presence has been a great help to me.
