Ron is survived by his loving family: his wife, Jennifer Nelson; five children: Anneke (Kevin) McCabe of Chesapeake, VA, Katrina Nelson (Matthew Lessard) of Chesapeake, VA, Liesel Nelson, Pieter Nelson, and Markus Nelson; three grandchildren: Magdalena McCabe, Conor McCabe, and Roisin McCabe; his parents-in-law Victor and Johanna Culver of Virginia Beach, VA; his parents Ron and Kay Nelson; his sister Christine Adkins and family; brother-in-law George Culver and family; many aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his beloved Uncle Larry Nelson. 

He attended Mater Dei Catholic High School in Santa Ana, CA, Class of 1985 and attended the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA, Class of 1989. 

A US Navy veteran, Ron served as a Naval Medical Corpsman while stationed at Naval Medical Center Balboa in San Diego, CA where he received a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for developing hospital administration process control systems. Following service to his country, he worked in various capacities and volunteered with many organizations for which he had a passion and drive to further their cause and impact on the world, to include the SDSU Hybrid Electric Vehicle Team, his daughters’ cross country teams, and as an assistant coach to both his sons’ travel hockey teams, among many others. 

Ron left us far too soon but he will not be forgotten, remaining forever in our hearts. His legacy lives on in his sons, his daughters, his grandchildren and all the family and friends who had the immense honor of knowing and loving him. 

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lexington, VA and burial service with military honors to follow.
