I first met Rohan on a BCMC ice climbing trip earlier this year. I was afraid to drive in the snow, and he offered me a ride. Great car chats led him to invite me on another climb the next day, which was an immediate insight into his generosity of spirit (not many people would be as willing to take out a total beginner on one of the few good ice days in the year!) and this only made itself ever more apparent the longer I knew him. He was relentlessly inclusive, encouraging, thoughtful and generous with both his time and thoughts... he had contagious curiosity and I loved our chats about everything from climbing to societal norms. His witty way with words would crack me up.
I'm terrible at texting, but Rohan was the sort of friend that would always make time to check in if he knew you were feeling poorly, or had an interview the next day, or just something weighing on your mind – even without the expectation of a response. He would share photos and updates of Agastya ("He is starting to blabber a lot and it is just too much fun"), and on Prajakta sending trad climbs, and his joy and love was always apparent.
One of the warmest and kindest humans around, with a bright soul. I will miss you greatly.

I could tag along on this climbing trip to the Bugaboos purely because of Rohan's generosity! It was also the very first time that I met Prajakta - I rode in their car all the way from Richmond and back and could see that they were a wonderful and loving couple who shared a common interest. When briefly on hard glacier ice Rohan displayed remarkable patience as the medium was quite new then to Prajakta!

My first and only alpine climbing experience was with Rohan, Prajakta, Mat and Aloke in the Bugaboos. Rohan always took care of everyone around him and never leaves anyone out.

This is the first time Mat and I visited Prajakta and Rohan's new place in Squamish, and meeting Agastya for the first time after the pandemic. They treated us with a home cooked meal, vegan food never tasted so good! I was so happy to see they were living their dream and fulfilling their outdoor adventures . We stayed in their overnight in their guest bedroom and Rohan had to unbox his TV so that we can watch the Alpinist on the floor.

I first met Rohan through Mat at the Hive. Rohan would give me advice on climbing techniques and I would share my baked goods. The three of us eventually formed “Rohan’s Training Club.” :) I always looked forward to our climbing and training sessions. Then, I finally got to meet PK, and we also became good friends. I feel lucky to have known Rohan, who had such a big heart, and I’ll always think of him when I make my chocolate banana bread.
