My first memory of Rohan and PK was about eight years ago at the climbing gym. I newly moved to Jacksonville, Florida and one day when I was at the climbing gym I noticed a couple bouldering together. Rohan was spotting PK while she was climbing an overhanging bouldering route. I remember looking over my shoulder and thinking how conscientious he was with her and how much he wanted to make sure she landed safely. I realize this sounds strange, I don’t normally observe how a couple climbs or interacts together. However, it was so clear even from a stranger who never met them how much Rohan cherished PK, I’ve always remembered it. After climbing more regularly, I always enjoyed running into Rohan and PK at the climbing gym. Rohan’s love for the outdoors was contagious and his bright smile always made my partner and I feel so welcome. He was such a kind man, we really looked up to him.  Goose and I had so much fun hanging out with him in Squamish in 2018- we feel lucky to have called him a friend.

2018, Meadow below Lindeman Peak, Chilliwack, BC.
Canada Day - 01 July 2018. I had met Rohan for the very first time the previous afternoon. He had contacted me via Facebook a few weeks earlier and wanted to connect. The plan was to camp at these meadows below Lindeman and then go to the top the next day. Our plans were scuttled as it snowed half the night and we woke up to see the upper mountain completely covered in snow and the weather too was miserable so we came down. However, while sharing the tent during the night we talked of various things and I realized that Rohan was a true mountain lover. He related his experiences in the Sahyadri and we had a lot in common. He showed me photos on his phone about his climbs on The Chief in Squamish and some of his climbs in the US. He also talked about his Himalayan trip in the Lahul area after he had finished his mountaineering course in Manali. Even though I was as old as his father there seemed to be no generation gap! He shared my love of mountaineering literature and I was pleasantly surprised to know that he had read a lot of the same books that I had. He talked about his short and long term goals as a climber and an alpinist and I realized that he was a very focused and dedicated individual. That little botched hike to Lindeman peak was the beginning of our friendship and later when Prajakta joined him and his parents came to visit in 2019 the friendship grew. I am still in shock that fate did not grant him the time to fulfill all his dreams.

We were always immensely impressed by Rohan's ability to carry Agastya on his back without breaking a sweat. However, our pride in being Rohan's friends was no match for the pride Rohan felt in being Agastya's dad. He'd always say, "My son is a trooper!"

My deepest condolances to the family and Prajakta. No words for this sudden & tragic loss of Rohan.

I just met Rohan somewhere this spring for the first time when Prajakta and I went climbing at the Smoke Bluffs. Rohan joined with the little boy Agastya… Such a gentle and kind person, such an adorable jong family …. Doing the things they love and enjoying the outdoors together…… wishing you all strength and love.

This picture is from my first time together with Rohan, Prajakta and Agastya. After following Rohan on Facebook for a few years and admiring his climbing journey with Prajakta, I finally wrote to him after moving to Vancouver. We hiked up on Mount Seymour on a very snowy day and I remember being really excited to finally meet them in person. Even though the weather wasn't ideal, we talked a lot, exchanged many laughs, and did our best to keep little Agastya entertained. The friendship and the connection felt natural and I will always cherish memories of that first hike together. Thank you, Gaurang, for this beautiful picture.
Rohan, we saw each other often at the Hive. You always have beautiful smiles. I don't want to use a past tense here as you will always have the beautiful smiles in my memory. You are strong yet soft, confident yet humble, charismatic yet kind and funny. We hung out outside of the Hive only a handful of times. One of them was when you and PK came to my place for my secret birthday party, where PK draw a beautiful mandala on the livingroom wall. I will always think of you and PK whenever I see the mandala.

2014, Himalayas
I first met Rohan in 2014 on a mountaineering course in the Himalayas. Rohan was the best climber and mountaineer in the entire group, but also the most loved person in the group. His helpful nature and always-positive attitude no matter the hardship inspired many people (most of all me) during the course. On one occasion, when another climber was too tired to carry her 50 pound rucksack up to basecamp, he carried her bag on top of his own. Many years later, we were reunited in Squamish where we had both moved from halfway across the world for the love of climbing. He and Prajakta graciously hosted me in their home for a few days and I spent some wonderful moments with their beautiful family.
