I will always remember Rich as an intelligent and witty individual. I had enjoyed tremendously working with him. My sincere sympathies to Linda.

I got to know Rich in 2006 when I was the broker of Tranzyme's 401(k) plan. The following year, he recruited me to the company for my first role in biotech and we've remained lasting friends ever since. He was a brilliant CFO, highly-respected and liked by everyone, with a never-ending sense of humor to help us all tackle the tough times. We worked hard but celebrated every win, including his Triangle Business Journal CFO of the Year award! We shared a love for dogs (his beagles, my eskies, and all dogs actually) and I remember when the first beagle, Uno, took Best in Show in Westminister in 2008, Rich was over the moon with delight! Rich posted a paw print, "signed" by Uno, on my wall! I'm including some fun pics of our times together with colleagues, one - a joke - when we thought we might need to tap the company "ATM" to raise capital, his fabulous smile, his beloved wife and two of their precious rescued pups.

I worked for Rich for many years at two different companies. He was brilliant, funny, and a joy to work with. I was amazed by his ability to come up with his trademark timely puns even while working on difficult problems. He made coworkers his friends, focused on each individual's strengths, and brought out the best in those around him. I will very much miss him and send my deepest condolences to his family.
