Coach's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard J. Ebarb, who left us unexpectedly on September 4, 2024. Born in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 29, 1967, his zest for life leaves an indelible imprint on all those fortunate to have known him.
Best known as “Coach Ebarb”, Rich brought immense passion to his work, championing the philosophy of encouraging everyone to reach their next level and always striving to be the best version of oneself each day. His philosophy, coupled with his boundless energy was a source of inspiration for many leaving a valuable legacy in his wake.
Rich was an accomplished 3-sport athlete in his youth playing baseball, football and basketball. His competitive nature led him to receiving accolades as Nevada Player of the Year (1986) after helping his baseball team win back-to-back NIAA State Championships (1985, 1986).
Rich went on to play baseball in college and won further honors at Arizona Western as Arizona All-Star Outfielder (1988) followed by helping his team win the CA-GSAC Baseball Championship (1990) at Westmont College. An unfortunate sports injury shortened Rich’s sports playing career, and he turned his focus and attention on coaching others.
Rich’s primary passion has always been sports and he got his first coaching job at Santa Barbara City College (1990) while still studying at Westmont. His coaching career continued uninterrupted thereafter coaching baseball, football, basketball and flag-football at several high schools in Las Vegs. As part of various coaching staffs as head and assistant coach, Rich helped his teams win the NIAA State Championship (1994, 1995, Runner-up 2012, 2013) and SWAC All-Star Team (2002, 2004, 2008). Rich was voted Regional Coach of the Year in 2019.
Rich also spent significant time coaching baseball at College of Southern Nevada and was part of the coaching staff when CSN Coyotes won the NJCAA National Championship (2003). In between coaching, Rich also served as an MLB Associate Scout for various professional organizations.
Rich obtained his Teaching Certificate and Master’s Degree and began teaching at CCSD in 1994 where he remained until he retired in 2022. Although Rich retired from teaching, he remained on as Liberty High School’s Head Baseball Coach.
Rich will be remembered for his infectious laugh, spirited personality and ability to make a profound impact on all those around him. He was outgoing, personable and had a knack for being the life of the party at every gathering. He will forever serve as a beacon of positivity and his influence will be cherished forever.
Rich leaves behind his loving wife, Lindsay Stadtlander-Ebarb, his adoring parents Elton and Tamara Ebarb, his brother Vincent Ebarb, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, along with countless others whose lives have been irrevocably touched and enriched by his presence.
In honor of Rich, all family and friends are welcome to attend his “Celebration of Life” on October 5, 2024, at the College of Southern Nevada (South) at Morse Stadium baseball field with a requested arrival time of 5:00 pm. Immediately following the ceremony, all are welcome to continue to pay tribute to Rich with a “Toast to Coach” at Pkwy Tavern on Marks.
In furtherance of Rich’s passion for supporting the Las Vegas community, his family is requesting donations to help support CSN Coyote Baseball and Liberty High School Baseball.
