Richard's obituary
In Loving Memory of Richard Wayne Bryson
Founder of Bryson Financial
1944 – 2025
Richard Wayne Bryson, beloved founder of Bryson Financial, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in Long Beach, California, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Rick’s greatest achievement was building something that would endure — his family, his company, and a culture that brought both together. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled in his children, his colleagues, and the countless relationships he nurtured throughout his life. Fiercely loyal and endlessly proud of his work, Rick left an immeasurable impact on the insurance industry, the community he loved, and the lives of all who knew him.
His many accolades reflect a life of service, leadership, and excellence. Rick was honored with NAIFA’s Will G. Farrell Public Service Award, the Ronald McDonald House “Few Good Men” Award, the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur of the Year, Los Angeles Executive of the Year, the Golden Boy Award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach, and was named Long Beach State University’s Graduate of the Year.
Rick’s strength, wisdom, and compassion left a lasting imprint both in business and throughout the community. A dedicated civic leader, he served as president on numerous boards, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach, the California State University Long Beach Athletic Foundation, the Long Beach Memorial Foundation, the Pacific Hospital Foundation, and the Virginia Country Club. His commitment to giving back never waned — more recently, he and his beloved wife Bree took to the dance floor to help raise funds for the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Medical Center.
A lifelong athlete and avid golfer, Rick’s dedication to sports began early and earned him a place in both the Long Beach Poly and California State University Long Beach Halls of Fame for football and baseball. His love of sports became a family tradition, passed down proudly to his children and grandchildren, who carry forward his legacy of athleticism, teamwork, and competitive spirit.
Rick is survived by his loving wife of nearly 30 years, Brenda Bryson; his children Todd Bryson (Kristin) and their children Jackson, Colter, and Bridger; Trent Bryson and his children Travis Jared, and Alexa; DeAnne Shea (Ryan) and their children Bryson, Parker, and Kingsley; and Taylor Richley (Spencer) and their daughters Margot and Scout.
In his final words, Rick reflected on his journey with the grace, grit, and heart that defined his life:
“While I am rounding third and heading home, I look back and think of all of those who have been there for me and those I love the most.
Most would slide into home feet first, but not me — I am going headfirst.
For it is the last game, the end of the road for me.
Don’t cry for my soul, as it has now been set free.
Remember the love we once shared. Miss me, but let me go.
My journey has ended, as it does for everyone. But what a journey.
An Urban Legend? I don't think so — but some would believe it.
Was it a master plan? I don't think so — but some would think so.
A slide into home, the final act of Rick’s life.
Somewhere between those 90 feet bases are the good deeds, my great friends, and my beautiful family.
A Bryson for sure.
Miss me, but let me go.”
