Riad Jean Ghali, age 81, passed on 11 February 2026 in Mallorca, Spain. He was born on 11 June 1944 in Cairo, Egypt and was the son of Jean and Ira Ghali.

Graduating from The American University of Cairo in Cairo, Egypt in 1970, Riad received a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Political Science. He earned a  Master of International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix, Arizona in 1974. Riad also obtained a second graduate degree from University of California, Berkeley with a Master in Finance in 1977. Always wanting to solve, analyze, and learn, Riad had a successful career working for Wells Fargo in San Francisco, California and Bank of America in London, England.

His love of nature satisfied him deeply and overflowed into what he did in life: hiking, camping, swimming, kayaking, playing tennis, and simply looking at the sky from his veranda while daydreaming. Music was also a joy and comfort to Riad, who attended concerts and encouraged young musicians. Riad was ever loving and kind to others. His genuinely warm smile reflected his love of life and people and was present even in the most difficult moments. He always had a thank you for every kindness shown to him. Most of all, Riad loved his family and friends. Every year he visited his mother for her birthday and always prioritized time with his family, playing in the grass with his nephews and nieces and teaching them games they now teach other children. The great joy of knowing and loving Riad is now met with the deep sadness of his loss. We will forever remember Riad with each sunrise and sunset as we look forward to the time we will meet him in the sky.

Riad leaves his sister Marie Catherine Ghali of Appleton, Wisconsin; brother Wacyf Ghali and wife Nadia of Frisco, Texas; son (and nephew) Alex Ghali, wife Tanya, and son Zander of Appleton, Wisconsin; nephew Farid Ghali, wife Lorna, and daughter Isla of London, England; niece Tania (Ghali) Garner, husband Philip, sons Josiah and Nathanael, and daughter Caroline of Plano, Texas; and partner Catherine De Waele of Kluisbergen, Belgium. Riad is preceded in death by Glenda Ghali his late wife, Jean Ghali his father, and Ira Ghali his mother.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, 24 May 2026 at First Congregational United Church of Christ located at 724 East South River Street in Appleton, Wisconsin. This ceremony will be followed by a burial at Riverside Cemetery at 714 North Owaissa Street, Appleton, Wisconsin.
