Please browse and/or add to our memories!! (And check out "The five picture intro to Becca's Memorial website" under 'Memories' if you'd like more information about the pictures above.)
Special thanks to all who have added memories and pictures so far. These make my heart sing! They are wonderful tributes, keeping a part of her in our hearts and minds always!
Thanks to Becca's work and academic colleagues for private and public pictures and messages. It's enlightening and heartening to see these perspectives of Becca that we weren't quite as familiar with . . . I'm so grateful for these.
Please, everyone, continue to enter whatever you wish, whenever you wish! There's already a fair amount here (and more is added periodically), so at the bottom of this Personal note, I've added a (sort of) Contents, in case there's something specific you might find interesting and/or go back to!
Rebecca was simply amazing!! She was intelligent, talented, engaging, and an efficient, multi-tasking problem solver. She more than 'got along well' with everyone. The CEO of one company she worked for once wrote of her (something like), "I bonded with Rebecca last week as we successfully accomplished [some business transaction] . . . Is there anyone, anywhere that Becca can't bond with?".
She was like that, not just friendly, but someone who really seemed to 'get it'. She impressed pretty much anyone she'd meet, and often quickly became an important part of one's life - as a work colleague, a student, and a friend. It was very easy to grow and progress when she was around.
Almost 50 years ago, I studied (and taught English) in Japan for a couple of years. I remember one employer, a widow whose husband had been a pilot, showed me a book she had made about him. (Not a scrapbook, mind you, an actual hardback book . . . remember, this was half a century ago.) The book contained stories and some pictures from his friends, family, and colleagues. She wanted his children (and now grandchildren and perhaps great grandchildren) and other relatives and friends to know more about him, who he was, and what he meant to others. It would serve as a reference and reminder, so that others, some who were perhaps very young when he died, or even some who hadn't met him, could, at least to a small degree, know him as she had.
To this day the best reminders I have of my parents are two letters. These letters make me smile again and again when I re-read them, and they bring back wonderful memories. It is almost as if Mom and Dad are standing with me as I read them. One was written by a friend of my father's, and one by a childhood neighbor. The letters described my parents, with brief stories illustrating the influence they'd had on the lives of the writers and others.
Hopefully this website will help do the same for the beautiful, magnificent Rebecca, a woman who touched many lives. She not only made us all better; she made us all WANT to be better.
Please, browse, and if so inclined, add a story, or five, or whatever you'd like, whenever you'd like. If something comes to you in a couple of months, and you feel like adding it, please do so! Photos are welcome too. If there are problems, please contact me, chris24jh@gmail.com or Jordan at swingbreed@gmail.com.
Click on 'Memories' to read or add stories and pictures. If you have an important event you wish to add, or just wish to view some important parts of our lives, click on 'Timeline'. We're still working on setting this up, and we'll be adding more, but I think it's ready for outside additions. It is a work in progress, and hopefully will continue to be for some time.
Also, if you prefer to share something private that you don't want all to view here, you can send it to one of our emails above (and I think there's private messaging on this site as well).
