Quentin's obituary

Our dear, heroic Quentin passed on June 5, 2021.  Quentin Sol (Strandhagen) Rupp blazed into this world on Fat Tuesday, February 28,1995 and lived his life with a spirit of carnival. He began his journey as "little tiny baby Quentin" and grew to a size and stature of having appeared to have eaten a defensive lineman. He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Adolph Rupp IV.  He is survived by his parents Stacie and Paul Parsons, his beloved “Mimi”, Kathy Wing, and “Papa” Marc Ward, his maternal “Grandpa”, Bill Strandhagen, “Grammy” Paullus, “Nana” & “Pop” Parsons, and Frank A Rupp III, plus a handsome dog named Harley, and numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins galore, and an accumulated, extended family. Their lives are forever darker without his grand earthly light and presence.

Quentin lived life authentically, and said; "YES" to magical moments of music and community.  Quentin entered a room like a big, warm and gentle earthquake.  Fiercely loyal to his family and friends, and woe to those who would dare threaten or trespass against any of them. He was funny, gentle in spirit and helped everyone he could with a generous soul. He was kind to children and to those in distress.  One rarely needed to ask for his help and was quick with an "I got you".  He was also fierce in his wrath, and everyone knew that they shouldn't be the object of it, and to keep their distance when it was on display.

Quentin was an avid traveler who loved the sea. He travelled with his family since birth and did so throughout his life. He logged countless hours sailing, quick with a turn at a winch or a wheel, learning to appreciate different people with different voices.  Sailing into a remote anchorage, he would find a fisherman he had helped and learned from years previously, and would inevitably be met with "You've gotten bigger".  How right they were.

Quentin excelled at rocking out.   From waking in his stroller long enough to name the song the band was playing, to selling his flip-flops to a shoeless hippy at age five to fund his inflatable alien purchase. Music festivals were always a facet of his life. He was a spectacle at festivals, traveling the country with friends, making new ones along the way, and having grand adventures.  Rarely subdued by the authorities, his exuberance was known far and wide.

Although inspired by his teachers, the four walls of a classroom never really inspired him. They were too confining.  At 19 he started climbing things as a profession, joining the world of tower professionals, and ascended quickly in his field. His work ethic is one referenced by those who knew it as beyond comparison. He was a leader by nature, with a sharp eye for detail. He was hardworking and what he imagined, he made happen. His example is one that is referenced continually as one to follow.  Along with his coworkers and crew, he befriended bees and spiders as fellow tower dwellers.

The light that was Quentin’s spirit is something we will no longer see.  Quentin's self-styled motto was "Follow your inner moonlight.  Release the madness".  We still feel the warmth of his spirit in our hearts. Take that warmth and use it to be the loyal friend that Quentin was to so many. Take that warmth and use it to protect those that need your help. Take that warmth and use it to fearlessly follow the path life lays in front of you. Take that warmth to find some comfort in your own life. Quentin was unafraid to take big bites of life…. don’t forget to savor the banquet before you.

We all float down the river of existence. At times, we are in calm water, at other times we face rapids and turbulent conditions. As we float on the river, we are surrounded by friends and family that we share the journey with. The current carries us all at different speeds. Quentin was moving along quicker than us and has gone around the bend up ahead. We can no longer see him on the river, but we can feel the wake he left.
