So long dear friend x

The family send their love always x

I am so sad and sorry I will no longer see Philip sitting outside the pavement cafés of Bloomsbury, always reading or writing ... and sometimes sharing snippets with me. In his role as Chair of the Board of the apartment block we shared for many years, he was so kind and truly 'neighbourly' on many occasions and guided me through several tricky dilemas.  I was so pleased to reciprocate a little bit by helping to identify funding to enable groups of Westminster schoolchildren to experience the The Big Life when it moved to the West End; so  important to Philip and a wonderful 'first' for them.  I wish I had photographs to share of the joy on their faces. So many amazing things Philip achieved, from which so many of us benefited in our different ways.
Along with so many others, Philip gave me my career. Arriving in E15 a clueless lad tagging along with Kerry & Clint, he taught me all the important lessons I needed to know to go and lead arts organisations, without me ever noticing I was being schooled in equity and integrity. Philip just modelled these effortlessly alongside his vision, generosity, fierce pursuit of justice and that infectious mischievous giggle. Beside all the amazing people I collaborated with at TRSE, working alongside Philip on The Big Life transfer with Bill Kenwright was both a great privilege and a steep learning curve, but he just always believed in you. It was his nature to nurture and I owe him so very much. RIP.
Met Phillip in the 70’s at E15 when I first started working there. What a remarkably gentle and engaging individual. Soft power comes to mind. Fond memories of him clipboard & notes in hand dancing & conversing at end of run parties on those boards at the Royal. RIP
I was sitting in the dress circle at Stratford East yesterday watching the tech for my musical The Big Life. And, obviously, I thought of Philip. Without Philip The Big Life would never have been written. Without Philip The Big Life would never have been produced. Without Philip I would probably never have had a career in the theatre. Philip helped so many working class and diverse theatre makers to make their way in the theatre industry. He was a remarkable, generous, brilliant, and beautiful man. Rest in peace, Philip, we will not forget you.
