After reading these remembrances i consider it my great loss to never having known Mike. Our thoughts and love are with you and your family as you gather to share your love and memories of his life. Take comfort knowing he was so loved in his amazing life amongst his family, his peers and greatest of all his students.
I’m sorry for your loss. When we heard of Mr. Goss’ passing I asked my son about the teacher and he didn’t know him. When I then showed him a picture, he said he’s the nicest guy, talks to all the kids in the hall, and everyone likes him. My son is a freshman and this teacher already stood out to him as a good teacher who cared about kids. He made an impact and clearly will be remembered by many.
Mike was my history teacher in Amherst High School, and he was the best teacher you could’ve had. He always was uplifting, and pulled any student out of a bad day. He loved everyone and we all loved him back. I will miss him and how he was able to put a smile on my face no matter what.
I had Mr. Goss for half of my school career, but his impact he left on me in those two short years will forever stay with me. I used to joke with people that Mr. Goss was my “in school dad” whenever I had anything going on in my life, good or bad, Mr. Goss was always there to support and listen to me. I could hunt him down in the halls just tell him a a stupid joke or ask to meet with him during the day to confide in him about personal matters. Regardless of the situation he was always there. His admiration for all of his students was something I seldom find in teachers. Having a teacher who really cared for his students and well being was so important and I couldn’t have been more grateful to have gotten to know him during my high school years. I will always remember, and speak highly of Mr. Goss because someone of his nature should always be remembered for not only what he did with his life but what he did for countless students.
Kate, my deepest condolences to you and your family. I’m so very sorry for your loss. Mike was such a great classmate, so funny and so smart. I’m heartened to see all the posts from his former students. It seems he had the same kind of lasting, positive effect on them that your dad had on us at West.
I'm so sorry to hear this. Mike was so much fun to sit next to in your dad's history class. Seriously discussing things or being silly and sarcastic, I have great memories of those days. I'm glad he became an educator too. I'm sure he gave his students much to think about. I'm so sorry Kate.
Mr. Goss was one of my absolute favorite teachers. I had him as a history teacher freshman year of highschool in 2016. Fitting in with the rest of the students was something I found difficult in the beginning of high school. He would always make class fun and exciting to look forward too. He helped his students and was very passionate about his job and I remember him being very excited about teaching us a new subject. He made everyone feel included and I think that made him and outstanding teacher. I would always enjoy the time I had after classes with him when we would discuss our funky music taste and listen to some of the most out there songs! He always knew how to make someone laugh and was very down to earth. He will be missed greatly.
