Michael's obituary
Michael was a truly beautiful soul—funny, compassionate, thoughtful, and so very intelligent. He felt the world deeply, sometimes more deeply than it allowed space for. In a world that sometimes feels so dark, Michael carried burdens that became too much to bear. It is with unimaginable sorrow we share that Michael died by suicide on April 24, 2025.
There are countless questions that my heart will always carry—questions that Matt, Brianna, Abbie, and I know will never be answered. And yet, through our pain, we hold on to a powerful truth:
Michael knew he was deeply loved. And we know with absolute certainty that he loved us fiercely in return.
Today and always, we choose to honor Michael not for the way he left us but for the beautiful way he lived: his amazing spirit, his sense of humor, his intellect, and his deep love for all of us.
Here are just a few memories and pieces of Michael that we want to share with you:
From the very beginning, Michael was extraordinary. He was curious, playful, and brilliant. As a child, he would spend hours organizing, building, and experimenting. Mechanically inclined beyond his years, he was always constructing something from household items.
As a child, his laughter was infectious, and he could be so silly—spending hours in costume, often donning his favorite yellow rubber boots and footed pajamas, and proudly carrying his Lilo & Stitch lunchbox while walking his brother to school.
Michael idolized his big brother, Matthew. He looked up to him and strove to make him proud, and they shared an incredible bond that was apparent every time you saw them together. It was as if they had their own language—they would spend hours debating various topics, sometimes even the simplest things, to logically work out every single aspect together. They spent countless hours at the gym, sharing a love for fitness. They were not just brothers; they were truly lifelong best friends.
Michael had a magnetic way about him. He made friends easily, loved talking walks outside, and was always eager to learn more about the things that interested him.
Michael shared a deep, joyful, and unconditional love with his longtime girlfriend, Brianna. Around her, he could be completely himself—goofy, gentle, and open. The love they shared was rare and beautiful. It made me smile with my whole heart.
One of Michael's passions was his absolute dedication to working out, which he did almost daily. He studied various techniques, always striving to improve himself. Fitness brought him immense joy—it grounded him and gave him focus. This was something he shared deeply with Matthew and Brianna, building a bond based on discipline, encouragement, and pride in each other's strength.
A big part of Michael's life was his friends in the Melee community. He was truly passionate about the game and would spend countless hours perfecting his moves. He won many competitions and loved the social connections he made pursuing that passion. It was more than just a game to him—it was a community where he felt seen, accepted, and celebrated.
Over the years, he explored many interests and pursued them with quiet determination. When Michael set his mind to something, he didn't stop until he mastered it.
Here are just a few of the fun things we wanted to share with you about Michael:
* He set impressive fitness goals—and crushed them every time.
* He could solve a Rubik's Cube in under a minute—blindfolded.
* He won many Melee competitions, something he took great pride in.
* He taught himself to play guitar and was incredibly gifted at it.
* He beat me at checkers every single time as a child—his system was foolproof.
* He was a skilled chess player and loved challenging his brother.
* He was a phenomenal cook and baker, spending hours perfecting recipes—just like his dad.
* He was the valedictorian of his high school and a straight-A student throughout college while pursuing his degree in engineering.
* Michael enjoyed drawing and created many beautiful pieces.
But beyond all of these things, what made Michael truly remarkable was his beautiful soul. His kindness was limitless—he would go out of his way to relocate spiders rather than squash them. His compassion for others was profound, and he went out of his way to make people feel seen, valued and loved.
Michael's humor—dry, sharp, and deeply insightful—made him truly special. He shared his unique perspective on the world in a way that made us laugh, reflect, and feel connected to him.
Michael, I love you, buddy, with my entire being. Thank you for the beautiful light you brought into our lives—for your laughter, love, brilliance, humor, and beautiful spirit. We will carry you with us forever and honor you by living with the same kindness, curiosity, and compassion that you showed us every day.
You are so deeply missed, my sweet boy—your spirit lives on in all who knew you.
