Pioneer in science and business, DR. MICHAEL NIENTSE CHANG (張 念 慈 博 士) passed on December 28, 2022, at his home in Nevada with his soulmate and beloved partner Tessie Che at his side. Michael was a deeply cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to so many in the United States and Taiwan.

The pinnacle of Dr. Chang's career was to lead Optimer Pharmaceuticals in the commercialization of Fidaxomicin, DIFICID™, which obtained regulatory approval in 2011. Fidaxomicin was developed in record time by the highly effective 50-person Optimer team built by Michael & Tessie from 1998-2011. Fidaxomicin is an important narrow-spectrum macrocyclic antibiotic for the treatment of inpatient Clostridium difficile infection or CDI.

Services in remembrance of Dr. Chang will be held in Taiwan on February 18, 2023 at 10am at Taipei City Church, First Meeting House, 2nd Floor (No. 72, Section 1, Jinshan South Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City); 台北市一會所 (台北市中正區金山南路一段 72 號). All are welcome.
