When my grandma passed away, my family and I started attending the church she attended every Sunday so that we could be there for my grandpa. Next thing I knew, I got involved with the youth group, helping out with their worship and music ministry, dancing traditional Filipino dances, and volunteering for the community, all while learning more about and appreciating my Filipino roots. Mike was a part of that experience in those years before I went off to college and started my own life, but I will always remember singing worship songs with him at the church, going to Fenton’s Ice Cream, and hanging out altogether after church services and enjoying some good food. Even after all those years of being away from the Bay Area, it was so nice to see you and your dad at my dad’s funeral. You gave me a hug and provided comfort like a little brother would and it felt like all those years never passed. Mike, you were a part of that tapestry that I consider home, and I thank you for sharing your love and light with all of us.
