It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mayra Bell on May 3, 2023. Born in 1948 in Chichigalpa, Nicaragua, Mayra brought warmth and joy to the lives of those she knew and loved. A strong, independent woman, Mayra was a shining light whose legacy of creativity and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Mayra is survived by her loving family: daughter Vanessa Bell, husband Peter Bell, sister Ligia Maria Acosta Rodriguez, sister Gloria Esperanza Acosta Rodriguez, and brother Justo Acosta. Her presence, laughter, and unique perspective on life will be dearly missed by them and by her friends.

Throughout her life, Mayra had a diverse range of interests and passions. Her favorite foods included tacos, fish and chips, gallo pinto, calamari, and sushi, which she enjoyed with a glass of red wine while listening to cumbias, rancheras, or anything by Julio Iglesias. She loved to watch cooking shows and I Love Lucy, and was a big fan of the Star Wars movies. Mayra had a deep appreciation for art, especially the works of Monet and other impressionists.

In her free time, Mayra enjoyed gardening, painting, and spending time with her husband, daughter, and beloved dogs. She stayed active by walking and dancing and loved vacationing in Hawai'i or anywhere by the beach. A compassionate soul, Mayra supported causes such as the American Red Cross.

One of Mayra's greatest accomplishments was successfully running her own occupational therapy practice, helping countless people improve their quality of life. Her wisdom and philosophy of taking one day at a time will continue to guide and inspire those she touched.

Mayra requested that there be no funeral. Instead, her ashes will be scattered at sea off the coast of California and her husband and daughter will memorialize her passing.
