Matthew's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic passing of Matthew Robert Paul Robinson resident of Duncan, British Columbia, Canada just days before his 37th birthday and a couple days after his youngest son’s first birthday. Matthew went to be with his Lord on June 19, 2023 after a sudden heart attack while vacationing with his beloved wife and children in Mexico.

Matthew was born to Robert Robinson and Christine Fortney on June 22, 1986 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, where he grew up.  In 2004, Matthew graduated from high school in Lethbridge, Alberta. In 2012, Matthew moved to Duncan, British Columbia where he met and fell in love with his soulmate, Joyeuse Sage Robinson (née Joyeuse Léa Dussault), while working as a cook at the Duncan Garage Café. On August 27, 2017, they married at the Villa Eyrie in British-Columbia in an intimate outdoor wedding and began their family and life together. Matthew then adopted his children Rebekah, Nephi, Spencer, Ruth, Faith and Lily, and became their legal and loving father.

In 2018, Matthew began to ask deep life questions and desired to know God. After much inner searching, he fell in love with his Heavenly Father, was saved by the grace of Jesus, chose to be a born again Christian and was baptized at New Life Church in Duncan, BC. In April 2020, the family welcomed the birth of their 7th child Zoé Joie Robinson. In June 2022, they welcomed the birth of their 8th child Luc Mathieu Robinson. Matthew was a loving and hard-working man, husband and father- his family meant the world to him and he was their world too. Nothing gave him greater joy than spending life everyday with his family. Always smiling, singing a beat and joking around, he made every day feel like sunshine.  In May 2021,Matthew taught his son Nephi to drive and he got his driver's license. In July 2021, Matthew walked his beautiful daughter Rebekah down the aisle on her wedding day.

Matthew was very fun-loving and took his family on many hikes and adventures, especially all over "the island". Always up for another adventure, Matthew desired to “explore more of the world” together. He took his family on an extended vacation to explore Mexico and the tropics. During this family adventure, on June 19, 2023, Matthew passed away unexpectedly of a sudden heart attack. When Matthew passed, he had his Bible and a small photo album of memories by his side. In his Bible, he kept a card that read: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardship as a pathway to peace; taking as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that You will make all things right as I surrender to Your will; so that I may be happy in this life and supremely happy with you forever in the next. Amen.”

Matthew is greatly loved, cherished and missed by his wife Joyeuse, his 8 children Rebekah, Nephi, Spencer, Ruth, Faith, Lily, Zoé and Luc (who will all especially miss him as they must now grow up and live their lives without their Daddy), his father Robert, his mother Christine, his sister Nikki, his brother Tylor, and other family and friends.

To honour Matthew, his life and his legacy with love and dignity, there will only be one funeral service in accordance with his wishes.

Families are forever bound in Spirit by everlasting Love.

"May the LORD bless you and keep you. May the LORD smile upon you and be gracious to you. May the LORD show you his favor and give you his peace." (Numbers 6:24-26)
