When I first met Marie, we bonded over our hummingbird tattoos. She told me whenever she saw hummingbirds, she would take it as a good omen. I have always had this philosophy as well, so I think we both saw that as a sign to be friends. We then later bonded over our favorite bands (Aerosmith, Journey, Def Leppard, etc), and her sweet collection of band shirts! I didn’t get to know her for long, but I knew her long enough to know she was a special spirit. Whenever I see a “hummie” as we called them, or hear one of our favorite bands on the radio, I’ll always think of her and the light she brought into this world.
