I just learned from another physician of the loss of Dr. Wajnowich. He was the best doctor. I became his patient over 30 years ago. He was one of the kindest and caring doctor that I ever met. The last time I visited him, he told me that he was retiring because he wanted to spend more time with his family and grandchildren. His legacy will forever live on.

Lenny was my freshman roommate at Duke  in 1971 and we remained roommates through the years, including our graduate programs at UNC (Lenny in Med School; me in the Dept. of Medicinal Chemistry--1982).  We both graduated from Duke with BS's in Chemistry and I always felt he was much better at Chemistry than I ...he just "got it"!  He was a groomsman at my wedding in 1979 and we kept in touch for several years afterward but only recently did I learn of his passing.  I remember his passion for life, his family and religion.  I know many of his family members passed away over the years which I'm sure saddened him deeply.  I will always be fond of his love for his little blue VW bug and the fun times we had together, even when we were both very busy guys.  I still have a picture of him in my wallet after all these years.  He was a passionate, caring guy...and I've thought of him often through the years.  I hope his family rests easily in his memory.

He was a great doctor and friend.  He cared about your physical and mental health.  I wish he was still here to recommend a doctor.  He cared that my husband was often unkind and offered support.  He is missed greatly.  My condolences to his family.

Dr Wojo found my husbands leukemia, and my aneurysm. He was our friend as well as his beautiful Shifti! Also our parents Dr.

Caring loving and amazing, always lifting you up. A wonderful father and family man.

He will be sorely missed but never forgotten,

Until we meet again Lenny.RIP

JERRY AND MARY ALICE

I was a patient of Dr Wojnowich, he was a wonderful Doctor who took care of me and my beautiful wife as patients for close to 20 years. Thank you Dr Wojnowich for all the lives you saved and touched throughout your life. I knew you as not only a lover of life but a person who cared deeply about all your patients. You are and will be missed. Rest In Pease.

I was his patient for probably 30 of those years and thru those many years I can’t tell you the discussions we had of family, travels & adventure. One thing that was always clear was how dearly he loved & was proud of his wife and children. I’m so sorry for this tremendous loss to you.  He also saved my life by getting very persistent with me about getting a low dose ct scan of my ex smoker lungs when I told him I was fine & didn’t need it. Sure enough…lung cancer! I got off so easy thanks to his insistence.  I am forever grateful.

No words for this tremendous loss.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I was just thinking about him, and made this unpleasant discovery. I was a patient of his for many years. He was an outstanding doctor, and just a helluva nice guy! My sincere condolences.
Went to high school with Leonard and will never forget him. Always funny. Knew he would be someone special.
I met Leonard in elementary school when his family moved there when I was in third grade. At the time I was told that his family had had to leave Cuba when Castro took over and leave everything behind. It wasn’t until later then I learned that his family had to leave Nazi Germany, and leave everything behind. For family that went through that traumatic experience twice I can do nothing but commend them and to praise Leonard. The last day of fifth grade, I moved across town where I went to McClintock, junior high, and East Mecklenburg, high school, and lo and behold. There was Leonard! And yes, he was one of the brains and we did interact in chemistry somewhat, as that was one subject that I can say I was good in. We did horse around some in high school, and I have to say that he was a very good designated driver! I went to Carolina and so did he at least I went for undergraduate. I’m not sure about Leonard. When I went to graduate school in Pharmacy lo and behold, Leonard was at UNC school of medicine and was president of the senior class. I met him again when he was the MC at the senior class Follies  done every year. I had fun seeing him do that. We went our ways, and several years ago I looked him up and found out he was in Savannah, or near Savannah, I think out near Tybee Island, as a family physician. I can’t think of anyone better  to have that type of practice. The loss to the community is very great as Leonard has left us. I send my sincerest sympathies to his family and to everyone who loved him. Leonard was a gift.

Deepest Condolences 💐 Jimmy & I were saddened to hear of Lenny’s passing. He was a great neighbor and friend. May good memories get the family through this time of mourning.

Hugs,

Jimmy & Tracy Chance

To the entire family, please know that we have been thinking of you everyday. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. David and I are so blessed to have met and shared a few meals together with Leni. He was a wonderful man who just had a way of letting you know he truly cared. It was so beautiful to see the smile on Shifi’s face every time she looked at him. My prayer is that Shifi and their children always smile and beam with pride when thinking of Leni.  You have an angel that will always be with you. Cherish those memories and smile back knowing he was everything to you and you were everything to him.

Our love to you all,

David and Amy , Savannah GA

Alan and I are So sorry for your loss! Leonard was so special and we have very fond and wonderful memories of him! Love Pearl and Alan
I’m shocked and so sorry to hear of your loss. Dr Wojo saved my life by insisting (against my wish to ignore) on a needed test and sure enough he was right again. I was his patient for 30 years  and shared many great stories & debates with him. To his wife: he adored you and the family you created and literally beamed when asked about you. Lifting all of you in gratitude, hope and peace.
It was a great honor to have Dr. Wojnowich for my primary M.D. for 30 years.  He was great with his patients and always had a smile and time for us in the office or hospital.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
My late Mom, Georgia Bell, was a patient & considered Dr. " Wojo" and his family as good friends & loved sharing the fruits & veggies of her green thumb with them.  Am sending heartfelt sympathy to all for your loss.  Hugs!
Oh I remember him so well a great caring man.  Our best to his wife and kids.
I will always remember Lenny’s wonderful smile whenever I saw him (at the BBJ mainly). May his memory be for a blessing. .

Our sincere and heart felt condolences for your loss.   We loved Lenny as our physician and friend.    We feel so lucky to have known him and we know he enriched every life he touched.
