Sad to hear of his passing and at only 71. He was a teacher of mine at Toll and he was a very disciplined PE teacher. Those PE days at Toll were never repeated in the highschool scene which is unfortunate. America needs more of that style of physical education and sad to see it go with him, RIP

Coach Kohlmeier was a great man. He taught me self discipline and pushed me to be the best version of myself on and off the court. I’m forever indebted to Coach and will always keep his memory alive.

The counseling office was always happy to see Kirt. He always cared for every student in his classes and came often to share about them, just like his dad, Dee.
I am very, very sad .

I was the class of '85 ~ was so saddened to hear of the passing of Kirt. He was the sweetest guy next to his father Dee. A fun story, I always use to wear purple, so when I did, both Kirt and Dee had a nickname for me, they always use to call out, "Grapeape" to me! Kirt always had a smile on his face, and was always willing to reach out and help where need be. My mom was the school nurse from 85-90 and always loved running into Kirt and being able to say that quick hello, he made a huge impact. Thank you Kirt for the memories, you will be missed greatly!

On behalf of the Stop Link 101 movement, I'd like to say that we were deeply saddened to hear of Kirt's passing. In the short time that we had the pleasure to get to know him we were all struck by his passion, his kindness, and his steadfast support of our cause. We were able to witness Kirt's love for this area and his farm lived out to the fullest extent as he helped us fight to prevent a potential super two highway from destroying Southeast Indiana. Kirt never doubted that we could win, even when the odds seemed like they were stacked against us. He understood that we weren't just fighting for our land and our homes, the fight went much deeper. We were fighting for our rights as Americans. He knew that by fighting this battle we weren't just attempting to preserve this beautiful area, but also the values that make America great. His dedication, enthusiasm and constant encouragement helped us cross the finish line, and in May of this year the highway project was cancelled. We were so sad he was unable to celebrate with us in person but we knew he was with us in spirit. Thank you Kirt for all that you did for this movement, we will be forever grateful.
I'd like to leave you with a quote from Kirt. He posted this message in our facebook group in response to a discussion about politicians and it continues to stay with me.
"A true and genuine man doesn’t sidestep or deflect questions or criticism. He stands tall, because his intentions are pure. He will always tell you where he stands."
You were a true gentleman Kirt and we will never forget you.

I was shocked and very sad to hear of coach K’s passing. I got out my laptop and started writing down all of the great memories I have of . I know that Hoover will turn 100 in five years and I anticipate that we will have a big celebration. I would think that he would have been the life of that party/event. With all his years growing up around the school as a kid followed by being a student and teacher I don’t believe anyone spent more time at the school than him. His loss to the Hoover community is tremendous.

1999 Hoover basketball team banquet. Coach K awarding me "Most inspirational player." I not only had the fortune of playing for Coach K's basketball program for 4 years, but also had the pleasure of coaching under him for an additional 4 years. Those 8 years spent with the man are the foundation of my life and how I rise to challenges & humble myself through the successes. Those lessons are Coach K's legacy and he will forever be loved & remembered by all those who played for him. RIP Coach, I wish I could have said goodbye!!! 😢

Kirt always had his players and students as his priority! During the years of Title IX, Kirt saw the importance and the talent that existed in girls' sports, and not only did he support their efforts, but he also became the Hoover girls' softball coach! Some of my best years as a teacher/coach were those spent at Hoover High School with Kirt Kohlmeier as part of the athletic staff. He was kind, loyal, and the true representation of Tornado Nation. Thanks for the memories, Kirt, you will always be a bright spot in my life!
