Happy Birthday in heaven, Kat!Â

I think of Kat almost every day. Yesterday, I searched my NOVA email to find some information, and there she was, wit, wisdom, and help right there in the discussion chain. I find I am still learning from her.Â

Everyday with Kat was fun. We laughed and cried together during good times and bad. She had a way of moving past the stress and one of us would naturally say something that would make each other laugh. Â We had fun socially and at work. From serious work situations to everyday life, in the end we were able to laugh and smile. She was like that...full of goodness, grace and cheer. I miss her. She was such a blessing to me. Â Even now, when life gets hard, I say to myself "what would Kat say" and then I smile and laugh.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was a team member of Kat's during our time in Leadership Loudoun during the 2017-2018 year. I laughed so hard with Kat. She was whip smart and also so easy to talk to. She texted our group about her diagnosis right after I had my daughter in March of 2021. We would often text to check in and I'd share photos of my daughter I thought might brighten her day. Thinking of your family but will always hold my memories of Kat close to my heart!Â

My deepest sympathies to Dave, Sarah, Jake, Emily and Aunt Gay and Uncle Bruce. My favorite memory of Kat, is when she asked me to dance at her wedding; imagine the most beautiful girl in the room asking you to dance at 16…. Ha!
I loved observing from afar the wonderful wife and mom she was as well as the passion and tenaciousness she showed towards education and leading others. She has also shown me what living a full life looks like.
My regret is not building more memories with her over the years.
I love you Kat.Â

Dear Dave, Sarah, Jake, Emily, Bruce, and Gay, I'm so very sorry for your family's loss. I knew Kat in middle and high school, and was fortunate enough to become re-acquainted with her online about 12 or 13 years ago. I also saw her at a couple of class reunions, and always enjoyed her company. She was a wonderful and decent human being, full of wit, wisdom, and intelligence -- all of which she shared graciously. I respected her greatly and saw her as a person whose respect meant a great deal. Kat's seal of approval was a benchmark to be sought after, and indicated an arrival of sorts. I enjoyed every conversation with her, whether in-person, via email, or in colorful social media threads. I also appreciated how she supported my dream and purchased multiple copies of a silly book I had self-published, requesting that I inscribe them to some of you so she could give them as Christmas gifts one year. That meant a great deal to me.I'm very sorry I won't be able to come to Virginia this weekend to properly say good-bye, pay my respects, and show my support for all of you. Please know that I will be there in spirit, and will be thinking of her during the service and get-together.In May 2023, I plan to enter my third V Foundation Victory Ride to Cure Cancer, cycling to raise money for research and support. With your blessing, I would like to wear Kat's name on my race bib, and dedicate that ride to her.May God bless her memory and each of you.All my best,Dan Bain
