When I brough my parents and aunt to Vermont, we stopped to see Karin on the hill and had lunch in town.. One of the few times I used the camera self-timer!

With love we send our condolences to Karin's family from her childhood friends Elsa and Gunnel. Our summers together when we were younger in Ullvi together with Karin gave us a friendship that lasted a lifetime. Our best memory was the fantastic roadtrip that Karin and Ted arranged for us in 1985. Great memories and stories that we have shared with the younger generations.

A last goodbye.

What joyous photos that capture your mom's spirit so perfectly!  I can hear her giggle.  I treasure so many memories of Karin and Ted - too many to write about here, but I have been cherishing these thoughts of them both these past few weeks.  I'm very sorry to not be able to attend the memorial, but know that I'll be thinking of you and I'll be celebrating these two wonderful people.  Debbie Chakour

Thanks for arranging this possibility to share. I have much enjoyed Karin as a wise older cousin. I also enjoyed to get to know Ted and the children. Thanks also for the lovely photographs. They bring back dear memories and they are both much missed.

I am happy for all the interactions with Karin and her family. I visited them in Terrytown and in Vermont several times. It was always a great pleasure. I can also remember that Tina was baptized by my father Daniel in Enviken church, some 50 kilometers away from Leksand. I picked up August and Maria Hed and drove them at a nerve-wrecking speed both ways. I was much younger then. I also remember their first cottage in Vermont. It did not look as if it had been built by a professional builder, but it worked!

When the final house was being built during a summer. There was still no toilet. You were suggested to pick up the foldable chair without a seat and a shovel and find yourself a private spot in the forest to perform your business.

Recently when seeing spring wildflowers at Killooleet I was reminded about Karin's love of wildflowers.  I remember that she took her students on wildflower walks to learn their names and how to identify wildflowers.  For some children this was their only exposure to the natural beauty of wildflowers in our VT woods.  Karin had such a kind and nurturing way about her, and she was always developing curiosity in her students.

Lars, Tina, and Gunnar...what a lovely story you have told here about Karin, both in words and photography. A beautiful portrait, Lars...well done, you really captured her spirit for sure.  As you know, I shared the classroom 2-3 times weekly with Karin as I worked with some of her young ones. Being in Karin's classroom was always a joy...everything under control, kids always busy and working, and always involved in creative endeavors. Karin loved reading aloud to the class...she always picked the most engaging stories that held the kids' rapt attention. And her cooking projects...always fun. She had that tiny kitchen (if you can call it that) on the side of her classroom where the kids made all sorts of wonderful treats...holiday cookies and such.  But I won't forget Karin's Tosca Tarta- one of the most buttery and delicious cakes ever! Karin made it each time we had a teacher gathering and there was never a crumb left behind (maybe because of me ). Tina shared the recipe with me but I'm sure it doesn't taste like Karin's.  I'm so sorry that I won't be able to join you but that doesn't mean I won't be thinking of Karin and all the wonderful times and students we shared. Sending lots of love to you...xoxo Gael Clauson

I'm so sorry for your loss. I didn't know Karin well but know she raised some amazing kids and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

We'll be en route to VT but won't arrive until late 7/9 so will miss the service.

Karin was a beautiful soul. I have fond memories of her matriarchal, warm presence at Killooleet as a kid. She and Ted were cultural pillars; bridging worlds with their knowledge, artisanal crafts, creations, teaching, and way of life. I'm very sorry I won't be able to attend her memorial. Much love to Lars, Gunnar, Tina, and all. May her memory be a blessing.
