I left Wichita about Dec. 16, never imagining it would be the last time I would see Jonson alive. I got a call on the 20th that he had been in a car wreck. Little did I know his heart had stopped for more than 30 minutes. The doctor said no one could survive that long with oxygen to the brain. Buffalo player Damar Hamlin was without oxygen for 7 Minutes.
We tried to keep positive but he never gained conscious. On Christmas Day we decided to donate his organs, as he had instructed. He hung on 5 more days, breathing on his own. But the MRI of the brain showed that he had no chance.
Jonson was more than a son. For the past 2 1/2 years he was my roommate and friend. When my dog Weezy died, Jonson’s Bella comforted me. So in 6 months I have lost my son, my roommate and both dogs.
Jonson was loyal to a fault, competitive at everything, defender of friends or anyone he saw being picked on.
I miss him tremendously.

I met Jonson through my son LaDarius back when they were the best of friends in elementary school and every time he would see me he would give me the biggest hug. It was so genuine. My son was invited for sleepovers multiple times. They reconnected at East High and I’ll always remember more recently when LaDarius told me he ran into Jonson one night downtown and he was looking like a Ken Doll, a model. I was happy to hear that he was taking care of himself. It hit my son very hard when he heard the news. I am so saddened but I have great memories of Jonson. My heart goes out to the family. Praying for your strength.

Steve, Becky & Family,
We are praying for your strength & faith. Hold tight to all the memories and speak about them often. Jonsen was a beautiful soul & we considered him part of our family❤ & His smile would light up a room. I'm sure he & Taylor are very busy up there, fishing, kicking around the soccer ball & just being two of the most handsome, sweetest men you will ever know😇❤
Love Jeff & Kristin Knoll

Well, I didn't ever want to do this for any of my ex-players; Jonson Shaad was a great kid who always kept in touch even after I moved away from Kansas. I coached Jonson for about two years (I think, lol) seemed a lot longer. I knew him a lot longer than that.
I knew the Shaad family from the first time I got into soccer in Wichita. I coached his brother Jon, another great kid and a fantastic player who went on to do well at college. Jonson was always around the fields when the Cheeteas (Jons club team) were training or playing; I told him if he wanted to join in or even work with me, he had to support Liverpool, and he did :) He really loved them, and he would reach out every time they won something and always reminded me I made him support Liverpool.
I could go on forever about how good a player he was and how hard he worked at his game, but I know everyone knows how good he was; you just had to watch him play.
It's the other side of Jonson I'll never forget.
Always joking around and just being Jonson, he was always the center of everything the team was doing. He always gave his input even if I didn't need it. Still, he was always the first to help any of his teammates who were having a bad day, or if the other team was picking on them, he was right there helping or supporting them. He was a great young man who enjoyed life, and many people will miss him; I'm so happy I got to know and coach him. I felt so sad hearing the news of Jonson and still find it hard to believe I have great memories of him and will always have those; he will live on in everyone's heart that he touched. I know he'll be pushing to get into a game with all the great players Pele, Best, and Maradona in heaven, and he won't feel like he is out of place.
YNWA Jonson, RIP one of a kind.

My condolences to Jonson's family. I first met Jonson when he and his brother Jackson enrolled for school at Franklin elementary school. I was Jonson's kindergarten teacher. Jonson was so happy when he came to class each day. His smile was infectious and the twinkle in his eyes endeared him to everyone. These recent pictures show those qualities had not changed. Jonson was curious and adventurous in his kindergarten year which led him to his love for learning on the computer and kicking around the soccer ball during recess. He knew at a young age soccer was his passion. Jonson came back to see me several years later and I was not surprised to see him growing into a kind and confident young man. To Jonson's family just know that no one will be lonely in heaven. Jonson will make sure of that! ].

Jonson was a one of a kind, his presence and smile would light up the room and spoke louder then words could ever. He was a fierce competitor, and an amazing friend, a brother. He was such an amazing soul that wanted the best for the ones he loved and cared about. He could always make you laugh and would always somehow know how to snap you out of taking the “ordinary,” route. There wasn’t a dull moment with Jonson regardless of the circumstances or environment he would always bring a smile to everyone in the room. My condolences and prayers to his parents, brothers, to all his family(and Bella) and loved ones. Jonson will be so incredibly missed by so many. We Love You J5 Forever

The first time I met Jonson (summer going into 7th grade, I think, via AJ Hoover) he walked into my house like he owned the place, made a bowl of cereal, and did a #2 in my parents private bathroom (and didn’t turn the fan on!!) 😂😂 I knew right then and there that we were going to be great friends. Indeed, we remained great friends. So many great times growing up doing dumb kid stuff. I actually even met my now wife for the first time at one of those NBC baseball nights at his old place. One of the great things about Jonson is how much more he valued people than things - you knew if you had Jonson on your side that you had a LOYAL and reliable friend that really cared for your wellbeing. Truly a giant of a person that will be missed by all.

My daughter Abby dated Jonson in middle school. He was her first huge crush, first love. I remember driving her over to the Shaad home and seeing Jonson come out to get her, smiling so big, and I remember thinking to myself, no wonder she loves this kid! It breaks my heart for the Shaad family to have lost Jonson. I know he touched many lives in a positive way. 🙏
In response to "What always reminds you of Jonson?"

My condolences to Jonson's family. I first met Jonson at Hamilton and he was a huge flirt and always had a smile on his face. We started dating and eventually became my first love.I actually still have love notes that we would pass in between classes. We were just young and dumb but I’ll never forget the friendship we had and even after we grew apart we were still always genuine friends. He was someone you would never forget ❤️
