Reflections from the Foodservice Industry
One of the most moving things for our family has been seeing the response from across the foodservice industry following John’s passing, even more than 25 years after his retirement.
Messages have come from customers, suppliers, competitors, colleagues, and friends who remembered John not only as a pioneer in Canadian foodservice distribution but as a man of integrity, humour, fairness, and deep respect for relationships.
Many spoke about his role in helping shape the modern “one-stop shop” foodservice model in Canada. Others remembered his hands-on approach to customer service, his ability to mentor and encourage others, and the way he made people feel valued, whether they worked with him for decades or met him only briefly.
Words that appeared again and again included: “pioneer,” “gentleman,” “legend,” “visionary,” “trusted partner,” and “relationship builder.”
What has touched us most is that so many people remembered not only what John accomplished, but how he made them feel.

Moments with John and Nancy - Captured by Verna Purcell
A collection of simple moments—birthdays, Christmas gatherings, and nights out with friends.
Always full of laughter, good conversation, and a table that never seemed to empty.
John and Nancy had a way of bringing people together and making every get-together feel like something special.
These photos capture not just what happened, but how it felt to be there.

I love sharing these memories. Your Dad acting as a priest performing a marriage ceremony, cooking in Italy, having fun on an Elvis weekend, eating, laughing, and living a wonderful life!
