I could fill pages. John was my step-son starting at age 8. We never bothered with the prefix "step"...I called him John and he called me Hal. The hardest we ever laughed was when he was 14 or 15 and found an empty mall parking on a Sunday and I gave John a chance to see what it was like to be behind the wheel of a car. After seats, mirrors and radio were adjusted, John was on his way. Stearing, acceleration and braking for the very first time was a bit of challenge. Most of his moves were greatly exaggerated resulting in screeching tires, sharp turns, and rather quick stops. The parking lot was empty of objects to run into so we knew we were safe but we couldn't stop laughing at the many twists and turns that were coming our way. We had to come to a complete stop to catch our breaths and control our laughter. John could have easily reached his goal in NASCAR...working in the pits.
