To the family of Dr. John Goodson,

Dr. Goodson's obituary in the Boston Globe caught my eye.  I did not know Dr. John Goodson but I knew his grandfather, Dr. William H. Goodson, in Liberty, MO.  He was our family doctor and lived across the street from us.  He was a beloved country doctor who did indeed make house calls.  It came as no surprise that Dr. John Goodson carried on the legacy of being a patient-centered primary care doctor in the same vein as his father and grandfather.  We have memories to share if the Goodson family is interested.  My sister wrote a short memoir piece on Dr. Goodson which we would love to share with you.  I have lived in the Boston area for 45 years so it was a heartwarming moment to be reconnected to childhood memories of Dr. Goodson through his grandson, the very good Dr. John Goodson.

Mary Pritchard

I knew him from the first day of his Residency. He was the most amazing person and doctor! His patients loved him.He ALWAYS listened to nurses. What a loss!Sincere condolences to your family 🙏🙏🙏
Where to begin? I’ve thought of Dr Goodson so often since receiving the letter he wrote to his patients telling us of his diagnosis. He was my doctor for more than 40 years….I remember my first appointment with him when I was just 24 years old. He came out to the waiting room, crouch down to where I was sitting and apologized for keeping me waiting. I loved Dr Goodson. He cared for my mum, sister, aunt and uncle. I always felt so safe having Dr Goodson on my side, and have felt so vulnerable since receiving his letter. Dr Goodson was outstanding in every way as evident by the many posts here.  I feel honored to have known Dr Goodson. I’ve always felt that way, and now during these desperate times thinking of him reminds me of what good there is in the world. I only saw Dr Goodson about once a year,  but always knew he was there if I needed him. I miss you Dr Goodson. Thank you for gracing my life with your compassion, intellect, humor, and your commitment to providing the finest medical care in the world.
I had the great privilege of being one of John Goodson’s patients for over 20 years. Everyone who knew him will tell you that he was an extraordinary clinician and diagnostician- he was a “doctor’s doctor”. He picked up on issues with me that many if not most PCPs would have overlooked. He was also extremely committed and compassionate - when he was with me in the examining room, nothing else mattered. We also spent a lot of time during my visits discussing health policy issues, which he was also passionate and extremely knowledgeable about. He was a fierce advocate for primary care and pushed for policy and reimbursement changes to support and advance the practice. He lived a life of helping others and did so with all of his intellect and his heart. His passing leaves a huge loss - may his memory be a blessing. David Storto
I have had the good fortune of being Dr. Goodson’s patient since the 1980’s. I have never stopped feeling like his patient. He told me his goal was to have his patients live to 100 so he guided me in prevention. Everyone in my circle knows of Dr. Goodson. He was pretty much my guru. What I remember most about our visits is how after the exam he would sit across from me and take my hand and look at me and ask me how I was. He was there emotionally for you. I always told my friends he was worth the wait because he was taking that amount of time with each of his patients. At the end of every appointment he would send me away with a handwritten 5 by 8 index card with reminders of vaccines and appointments but also personal tips. Once when he knew I was heading to Italy he wrote on a card SPQR because he wanted me to read the book prior to visiting Rome. I was so blessed all these years to have his guidance. I send my love and condolences to all of you. He shared stories of you as well with love and appreciation.

At my appointment one day, Dr. Goodson pointed his iPad at the floor with the Starwalk app active and with a broad smile, waited til I got that it was showing stars of the Southern hemisphere on the other side of the earth. What a trickster.
I became a patient of John’s over forty years ago. How lucky I have been to experience his expertise, kindness and thoughtful advice through all of life’s ups and downs. I told him once that he always made me feel like I was his most important patient. He said, “You are my most important patient.” LOL! God bless you, John, may you rest in peace knowing how much all of your patients loved you.

I am so sorry to hear this. He was a good family man and physician. He was very helpful to me during my medical training.
John was an honorable man,  I so looked up to him as a leader, teacher and physician.

Incredibly saddened by the loss of Dr.Goodson, he was a brilliant doctor and a kind and empathetic man . It was always a pleasure when he would make the trip to Zabaglione for dinner with his wife, even when his illness prevented him from coming inside he would still arrive and dine at a table outside. He was living the life he had and it wasn’t preventing him from enjoying an evening with loved ones. Truly an inspiration.

During Covid he was a life saver, he saved Mike’s life, coming into the ICU daily and managing his care long after the crisis eased. For this we are eternally grateful.  Dr. John Goodson will be missed. May his memory be eternal, and our sincere condolences to his family.
